07:27 AM ET 03.11 | Jeff Weaver is unemployed, three weeks before the start of the season. The former Dodgers and Angels pitcher won the game that clinched the 2006 World Series championship for the Cardinals, but he is 15-27 with a 5.96 earned-run average the last two seasons. The Nationals and Cardinals have expressed interest, said his younger brother, Angels pitcher Jered Weaver.

He should be looking for some pitching ability first...

March 11, 2008  09:03 AM ET

Hicks will sign him.lol

March 11, 2008  09:40 AM ET

Right on Tony....

Plus he possess all of the intangibles the Redsux covet in their pitchers...inconsistency...attitude problems..unfulfilled promise.

March 11, 2008  09:54 AM ET

Red Sox wouldn't bother with him... their bullpen attendants kicked his butt.

I thought he retired already. After the way he got booed out of the Bronx, I imagined his fragile psyche would not have been able to continue as long as he had. By the way, he did deserve all the booing he got in the Bronx so I guess Yankee fans aren't COMPLETELY irrational...

In Philly, Weaver and Lidge can be known as "The Broken Neck Brothers"! If he were to sign there CBP would become an even bigger launching pad than it already is...

Weaver was inexplicably rock solid for the Cards during there 2006 September and post-season. Why he can't put it together like that all the time, I have no idea. Maybe it is Dave Duncan...... with the Cardinal starting pitching in the shape it is in, I don't know why the Cards wouldn't offer him a low-ball, incentive laden deal and get him in camp.

March 11, 2008  10:29 AM ET

I'd take a shot on him. He can still put it together for a short period of time. I mean short like 3 innings.

March 11, 2008  10:40 AM ET

He can't pitch in NY.

March 11, 2008  11:07 AM ET

C'mon now....watchin this guy toss in NY reminds me of back home. Uncle Joe would be jugglin an showin off. But he wasnt showin off when we'd hide some mutton in his drawers and let the dogs loose.

Weaver should have never left St. Louis. Pitching coach Dave Duncan and catcher Yadier Molina got the most out of him that was humanly possible... but then a few months later he forgot all that an bolted to Seattle for a few dollars more. In the long run it appears that that was a stupid stance to take because now the best he can hope for is a "minor league contract" some someone. The moral: Don't turn your back on a good thing, Jeff.

Poor Truth.....Truth is, he's sad about the Indians collapse in the ALCS last year still.....poor guy

Papa Shango with yet another humorous but disturbing image.

Hey Weaver is only 31, and never has had arm problems. He does have a ring, He worked real well with Dave Duncan of the Cards. The cards have half their staff on the DL after surgeries. They should sign him for a 1 year deal with incentives. They have nothing to lose. Carlos Silva got 48 Million for 4 years, and his fast ball tops out at 81.
