Will Eagles draft receiver?

The Birds still seem likely to trade Lito Sheppard. It isn't clear they'll get a difference-making wideout in the deal. They certainly could get a wideout with potential, picking 19th overall in the draft - DeSean Jackson, from California, Limas Sweed, from Texas, Oklahoma's Malcolm Kelly, LSU's Early Doucet, Michigan State's Devin Thomas and Indiana's James Hardy all seem likely to be drafted somewhere from the middle of the first round to the end of the second.

I think they will. Hopefully they will pick DeSean Jackson so the Cowboys can get Limas Sweed.

Any WR we pick will be better than the last one we drafted. FRED-EX was awful.

March 12, 2008  08:25 AM ET

The Eagles need at least one good receiver. Brian Westbrook cannot do everything, even though he appears to at times.

March 12, 2008  08:33 AM ET

Though I knew it was inevitable, I was disappointed yesterday when I read that Fitz and the Cardinals arrived at a contract agreement. Maybe Chad Johnson will increase his efforts to "break his plate" in Cincy.

March 12, 2008  08:52 AM ET

What do you mean Fred Ex was awful?!?! 4th and 26, BABY!!! Okay...he sucked at everything besides running his mouth. :o)

We need a solid #1 guy. We have a bunch of good #2 receivers, but we need that #1.

March 12, 2008  09:15 AM ET

The last one they drafted was Reggie Brown no? I still hold out a little hope we can still trade for Fitz. Now that he has a new contract, he is tradeable again. Unlikely i know, but still....

March 12, 2008  09:37 AM ET

They most definitely should.

March 12, 2008  09:43 AM ET

Every year, my Eagles do everything just short...of getting that one go to guy for a WR...except for the year of 81...and despite his implosion we still made it to a Superbowl.........Our window is closing fast...we have to strke ASAO

March 12, 2008  09:44 AM ET

Not very likely....Fitz got a 15 mil signing bonus which will hit the cards cap the next 4 years regardless of what team he plays on. Now Boldin on the other hand might be a safer thing to wish for.

March 12, 2008  09:56 AM ET

Fitz has a no trade clause. Holt is still an option as is Johnson. Most likely scenario, knowing the Eagles, trade Sheppard for a second, draft a lineman with their first and a wr with their second. Then wonder why the receiver doesn't pan out.

March 12, 2008  10:25 AM ET

I agree that Fred Ex was better at running his mouth than running his routes... but, for some reason, most of the big plays involved D-Mac throwing to him. Two come to mind... the 4th and 26, and that 14 second scramble by McNabb ending in a HUGE bomb to Freddie. That was against Dallas, right?

As for our WR situation... call me crazy, but I think we'll be alright. Sure, it would awesome to get a legit #1 receiver, but with a healthy McNabb and Westbrook... a recovered LJ, and another year under Curtis' belt... we'll have a sound offense. Remember that in the start of the 2006 season, we were regarded as one of the league's premier offenses. Was Donte that much of an impact over Curtis? Not to mention that Donte was on the sideline for a good chunk of that season.

Have faith Eagle fans... we'll be alllllright.

March 12, 2008  10:27 AM ET

The last one they drafted was Reggie Brown no?

True, he's so good I forgot about him. Why does it seem at the end of EVERY season we eagles fans and Philly media all state the same exact thing. GET A #1 WR. It never happens and we are still SB less. I seriously doubt we will trade for Fitz. Would love it but banner\lurie will never pay that amount of money

March 12, 2008  10:30 AM ET

i hear ya lostinNY, but personally I think a solid #1 WR would be the best upgrade for the team right now. When we had TO (clown) McNabb had the best #'s of his career and we played the best football I've from the birds in a long time

4th and 26 was one of the best plays ever.

As much as I want a stud WR, you have to ask "Has the birds WR college scouts changed at all?" For some reason we suck at scouting WR's. The last 1st round WR pick was Freddie (25th overall) at this point here are the receivers still available: Steve Smith,Car (74th pick), Chad Johnson, Cin (36th pick), Reggie Wayne, Ind (30th pick), and Chris Chambers, SD (52nd pick).

How confident are you all that they select a legit WR in the 1st round that will actually pan out...? I know I have my doubts!

The Eagles have a ton of "solid" #1 WR's. They need a playmaker and gamebreaker to dominate defenses.

Dear Eagles Fan,

Sorry ... but your window has closed ... see ya in another 20 years.

Love,
Dallas Fan

Eagles should draft a punter 1st

March 12, 2008  12:13 PM ET

OT in the 1st round. Hardy will more than likely be there in the 2nd round. Take him then. 6'6, 220lb, 4.5 40, and monster hands inside the 20. He has some past baggage, but he'll fit in right away.
