Colorado coach ruffles feathers
Hopefully, Jeff Bzdelik isn't into making friends among fellow Big 12 coaches as much as he is winning games. The first-year Colorado coach certainly didn't win many admirers among his coaching counterparts in the league this week when he suggested underclassmen with NBA talent and no desire to stick around school for four years should head to the NBA as soon as possible. The subject was broached when Bzdelik, a former coach and longtime assistant in the NBA, was asked whether Kansas State freshmen Michael Beasley and Bill Walker should come out after this season. What Bzdelik says makes sense, but most coaches frown on other coaches suggesting their players leave early.

'makes sense'? -- the number of kids who will make millions in the NBA is miniscule compared to the number of kids who need a full four-year college education. kids should not be enrolled in college unless they commit to the full four -- otherwise, colleges are nothing but trade schools for the NBA and other professional sports.

These schools don't want these kids for academic reasons. These kids don't want to go to these schools for academic reasons. Let's stop the charade of the "scholar athlete", pay them according to what they help bring in and be done with it.

Well, for someone most expect not to stick around KState after this season, Beasley isn't dogging it in the classroom. He posted a respectable 3.1 in his first semester.

We all know that the schools take advantage of these "kids". At least the student athletes are honest about. Going to the NBA is one of few options they feel they have. On the other hand, the colleges (that recruit NBA only material) are into money, it is all about money. They don't care who graduates and who doesn't.
