Eagles, 'Skins, 'Boys ask about Boldin

The Cardinals' salary spotlight shifted instantly to wide receiver Anquan Boldin, who is scheduled to be paid considerably less than his receiving counterpart. Last season, the Cardinals offered Boldin a contract extension, and here's the key fact to consider: Boldin told them he wanted to wait for Larry Fitzgerald to finalize his new deal. Now that he has, it dwarfs Boldin's, whose average annual salary is three to four times less than Fitzgerald's. Philadelphia, Washington and Dallas have explored the possibility of acquiring a big-name wide receiver, only to find that there aren't any readily available. Now those teams could wind up exploring Boldin's availability.

Sweeeet! This is much better than looking to get Roy "I refuse to tip the pizza boy" Wiliams. Big name free agent WR means curtis becomes one of the best possesion receivers in the league AND Reid can concentrate on getting a replacement tackle for thomas or runyan in the draft.

I love this guy, anyone who gets him, or if he stays will be in good shape. Guy is a beast!!

March 13, 2008  08:12 AM ET

I've always liked Boldin. I doubt the Cards move him. But, he does have Rosenhaus as his agent so he could make things difficult.

March 13, 2008  08:25 AM ET

Could be what the Cowboys need for the short-term.

March 13, 2008  08:30 AM ET

It would be a Long Term fix.

Boldin will not be going anywhere. He is going to be pissed with his contract, but that is what he signed. I would love to see Anquan Boldin in a Dallas Uniform, but it will probably never happen.

I would love this, but will the cardinals really part with him? Give Them Sheppard and Brown, heck throw in a 3rd round pick.... just get a fliping WR!

First off Philly isn't giving up Brown, Sheppard yes, Brown no. Also Arizona is going to want at least a 1st and 3rd round pick for Boldin. Or a big name player and a 1st round pick, there's no way any team is going to get this guy at a cheap price, most likely, IF any team is able to get the Cardinals interest they are going to have to overpay big time.

bushwack

I had heard they offered Brow up for Fitz. And give them our first round pick.... i dont care, get McNabb a good WR!! Prefferably not a nut job like TO this time.

March 13, 2008  09:40 AM ET

bushwack ...You are 100% correct. No one is getting him on the cheap..And the next team will have to up his contract big time....The Eagles, Skins and Cowboys all have one thing in common. They have failed to draft play makers at the wide out spot for a long time , and now they will have to over pay to get one..

March 13, 2008  09:44 AM ET

50yearfan, I agree the Eagles havent drafted well in the WR area, horrible actually. But if Boldin gets Larry Fitzgerald type of money is that really over paying for him? He is a stud at WR and still young, i would say pay him the money, just try to make it a little longer contract.

March 13, 2008  09:56 AM ET

Heck we have two firsts, I say Dallas should pony up one of them and pair Boldin with T.O. Put Glenn in the slot and we would have a passing attack to rivial NE's last year.

March 13, 2008  10:05 AM ET

They won't trade him. See the little C on his uniform. But more importantly he is due to make less than the 14.6 million that Fitzgerald was going to make before he signed his extension. His cap number is more favorable.

March 13, 2008  10:25 AM ET

Boldin is only making 2.5, 2.75, and 3 Million over the last 3 seasons of his contract. That is not much at all.

Plus, during the season, Ken Whisenhunt and management tried to re-sign Boldin. Anquan said "no, I want to wait and see what Fitzgerald gets for his contract."..........Do you honestly think that the Cardinals will pay to keep him. The Cardinals are in a financial strain right now. The Best thing to do is to draft a RB in the first round and cut Edge. The Cardinals will keep Boldin for as long as possible. Maybe even through the next 3 seasons......

March 13, 2008  10:28 AM ET

The Cards can't really afford to keep two high priced WR's long-term. Boldin is a great WR. And for him to only make 2.5 million, while Fitzgerald is making about $10 million? You think he's going to be happy with that?

March 13, 2008  10:39 AM ET

COME ON bOYS YOU NEED TO PULL THE TRIGGER ON THIS ONE LIKE YOU DID WITH T.O. hE IS YOUNG AND PROVEN!

March 13, 2008  11:05 AM ET

Not gonna happen!

March 13, 2008  11:50 AM ET

No they won't give him a new contract this year. They probably will tell him to wait until after the season and then they will work on a new deal. The only problem with this scenario is it can tick him off and he could become a cancer on the team.

March 13, 2008  11:51 AM ET

It is funny that the Cards can't afford to keep two good WRs because thaat is what the Colts have managed to do with Harrison and Wayne.

March 13, 2008  11:55 AM ET

The Colts are smart with their cap. They signed Wayne to 6yrs/$39 million. People will take less money to play for a great team. Granted, Arizona is looking like they might be improving. But Fitzgerald was owed what, $17 million this year? And then he re-did he contract to make $10 million this year? Whoever did his rookie contract should have thought for the worse.
