The Yankees play two games Saturday, one in Lakeland against the Detroit Tigers and one at home against the Tampa Bay Rays. In scheduling Shelley Duncan for the Rays game, the Yankees are essentially daring Tampa Bay to escalate a feud. Hank Steinbrenner, the Yankees' general partner, said he expected no trouble Saturday. But Steinbrenner added that he approved of the feistiness of Joe Girardi, who replaced Joe Torre as manager in November.

Next thing you know this will turn into an NBA brawl with the fans getting involved. Bad for the sport.

Can,t figure why BOBO WATSON let Madden of the Rays get off scott free. He's the the idiot that states sliding into 2nd base is criminal. What a joker he is for leader of a baseball team. And to all the so called sports writers that are sniveling about Duncan's slide, whatyabet they never or don't know how to play the game!!!!!

Can't we all just get along.........hehehe

March 15, 2008  09:26 AM ET

The Rays have absolutely nothing to lose (except a bunch of games this year again)..that's the bad part for the Yankees. The top 2 teams in that div will always be the Yanks and Sox, with the Orioles and Rays bringing up the rear...if the Rays can't win the division they might as well spoil the Yankee's chances

Because Wartson is still pissed at the Steinbrenners for when he was with the Yanks and his percieved ill treatment. . Go back and look at most of the suspenions that Watson has handed out when the Yanks are concerned. Almost all of them are heavier against the Yanks. In every instance the Yanks deserve worse penalties than the other participants in the inciidents? Why, do I think not?

I can't wait for the regular season to start so we can read some real baseball news. This 'tabloid' crap is getting old.

March 15, 2008  09:47 AM ET

Who the hell is Shelly Duncan? This guy has been in the minors his whole career and now he is the payback man for the Yanks? When the pitchers make adjustments to this bum he will be back in the minors before you know it and he can continue playing dirty in Tripple A!!

March 15, 2008  09:50 AM ET

ladies, ladies, ladies......save all that energy for the regular season. ;-)

agreed that this is already starting to get old......next story please.

March 15, 2008  10:12 AM ET

Seriously, Shelly Duncan?

March 15, 2008  10:22 AM ET

Must be A-Rod's influence. From slapping at balls to spiking at balls.

March 15, 2008  10:25 AM ET

....to cupping balls

March 15, 2008  10:31 AM ET

A-rod should spend some time pregame teaching Shelley the art of the #itch slap.

March 15, 2008  10:33 AM ET

I guess we need something else to talk about other than steroids. Please nothing is going to happen.

March 15, 2008  10:49 AM ET

BORING.

March 15, 2008  11:30 AM ET

Just shows how much more childish they are.

The rays can't afford any fines, they will always be a joke and one of the worst teams in baseball. Seeing Duncan play every game last year, thats how he plays, he plays hard. He slid into 2nd base just like that in 2 different games last season trying to break up double plays. Gomes started the brawl, everyone knows that but the MLB front office. Too bad Joba is pitching agianst the tigers today and not the rays because he will throw two right at the head of the rays best player. Since they are the rays, you can just take a wild guess of who that is because no one actually knows...
