SEC relocates tourney games
The SEC Tournament is moving out of the Georgia Dome and down the road to Georgia Tech's Alexander Memorial Coliseum to be played in front of family, friends and media only. Georgia and Kentucky, whose quarterfinal game was postponed late Friday after an apparent tornado struck the Georgia Dome and World Congress Center areas southwest of downtown Atlanta, will play at noon Saturday. That game will be followed by Tennessee and Arkansas at 6 p.m. Then Mississippi State will play the Georgia-Kentucky winner 30 minutes after the first game. That's two hours later than the original scheduled time but the SEC wanted to build in "an opportune turnaround" for the teams playing late Saturday. Admission for all remaining games is limited to players' families and anyone holding a working credential. That means that tens of thousands of fans in town for the event will be turned away.

not sure about a regional Irish, but I hope they got the roof fixed at Alexander......they had to postpone one of GA Tech's games earlier this year b/c the roof was leaking.

You would have thought with the threat of severe weather, the Georgia Dome staff would have had some access to weather radar. The weather gurus say all the time that a tornado can strike in a bad thunderstorm, without warning. The radar would have possibly showed that.

I have to say...this is quite ridiculous...I am a HUGE Kentucky fan, but I feel bad for both teams with respect to what has happened. It has to be so hard for these guys to play a heartfelt game without the presence of fans. The place looks like an absolute ghost town!!! Crazy stuff I tell ya

Jabril, a tornado hit the Georgia Tech campus in the spring of 1985. Technically speaking, that's considered mid-town Atlanta, rather than downtown, but it's less than a mile away from where the Georgia Dome.
