The 49ers said goodbye Friday to defensive end Marques Douglas, but they are reportedly saying hello to former Cardinals receiver Bryant Johnson. Douglas, an unrestricted free agent who became expendable when the 49ers signed Justin Smith, agreed to a four-year deal with the Buccaneers.

This is a pretty good signing. Johnson has been in the shadow of Boldin and Fitzgerald, but he can be a #1 receiver in this league.

With this signing, SF has moved to the top of the charts in free agent acquisitions this off season.

He isn't a #1 NFL receiver. I like him and he's a Penn Stater but at the same time, i'm happy my Buffalo Bills didn't sign him.

This is a good pick-up. He will be very motivated to prove that he is a #1 starting NFL reciever. Plus, the 49ers can't go anywhere but up. I think.

lol

Its a good move since Johnson has potential and can learn from Bruce to creat a good 1-2 punch

March 15, 2008  03:31 PM ET

Great move! Johnson is an EXCELLENT reciever and has all the natural ability to make a big impact.

Should contribute much more than than the disppointing DJax.

Now if we can just get somebody to throw the ball.....

March 15, 2008  05:20 PM ET

don't you guys get it... we could have rice, owens, moss but we have no qb.... oline is avg... what a waste of skill position players

March 15, 2008  05:25 PM ET

The Niners suck.

March 15, 2008  11:34 PM ET

screw that, the niners could be good this year, start shaun hill, he's good for the martz offense, and if he doesn't pan out, use o'sullivan since martz like's him so much. This year will be a little experimental.

March 16, 2008  07:40 AM ET

Was hoping the Bucs would pick Johnson, but looks like they didn't want to spend a little of their $44M! Good luck with him SF...could be a great WR for ya.

March 16, 2008  09:56 PM ET

He would've been perfect for Buffalo though....He's tough and fast....I wish Arizona could've kept him.......San Fransisco will have a decent recieving corps next year but I cant believe Isaac Bruce would even THINK about wearing Jerry Rice's 80!!?

March 17, 2008  05:53 PM ET

Okay, I like the pickups of Bruce and Johnson for the Niners.....but in Martz's offense, they need a better O-Line and a smarter QB. Plus, Martz tends to not leave anyone back to block too often (which is what got both Kurt Warner and Marc Bulger clobbered abotut 15 times a game), so there is even more pressure on the O-line to perform. I think the Niners will struggle in their first year with Martz. Oh, and Shaun Hill isn't the answer.......he's terrible.

March 18, 2008  01:53 PM ET

teach him to get rid of the ball quicker especially if there is no one to block, Someone must be open then.

any off season move to shake things up is a good thing for the 49ers. offensive additions are good but defense wins championships.
