WVU's White to pass more

Here's a novel idea: Patrick White, West Virginia's fleet quarterback, wonders if he needs to ice down his throwing arm. The terminology is different. The pass protections, patterns and plays are unlike the bubble screens and short stuff of the spread offense utilized heretofore by Rich Rodriguez, before he left for Michigan. The running game is mostly the same. White is expected to pass more often, and his targets are players with less experience. In Reynaud (64 catches), Slaton (26) and Schmitt (12), West Virginia has lost 58 percent of its receptions from last season, including team leaders Nos. 1, 2 and 4. After Dorrell Jalloh's 24 catches, it took seven others to combine for 50 more -- with just one touchdown.

Didn't they say something like this last year about how White was going to be a really good passer and throw the ball more often. The only problem is that White can't pass that well, so WVU should just stick to its spread offense and give the ball to Noel Devine, who has All-American potential.

White needs to just have confidence in his arm because he can whip that ball around the field!

White needs to put on about 20 pounds of muscle if he hopes to have any chance of playin' qb in nfl. I'm all for the smaller guys gettin a shot behind center in the big show (ie troy smith), but smith had like 35 pounds of mass on White.

That said, White is a class act and should play in some capacity in NFL regardless of position.

i do believe white was a really good passer last year.... sure wvu ran significantly more than they passed, but white's pass efficiency rating was top 10 in the nation....
maybe you should know what you're talking about before you spout off baseballbrett.

additionally: nothing about the "spread offense" in and of itself indicates it is a run heavy offense....
so, WVU is sticking with the spread, but adding a bit more variety,

I'll believe that when I see it.

Why not, everyone dogged on VY's ability to throw the ball after his junior year and what did he do his senior season? Pat white is an efficient thrower if you look at his passing stats. It will hurt losing Slaton, Schmitt and Reynaud but Sanders, Jollah and Devine will all be very dangerous in the passing game next year.

WIth RR gone WVU can add in more misdirections and motion, making short quick passes very effective. If they can find a tank to run in between the tackles, White's & Devine's speed and moves around the edges should make this offense very explosive

vince young won the championship as a junior and wv will be one of the best teams in the nation again, devine is a much better back than the unreliable slaton and it will only help the offense be less predictable if white looks to throw first and then pass ala vince young

If you check the percentages for White he has made improvements in his accurracy each year. The problem for White was Rodriguez's system. When White would go out (see the USF games), RR would not tweek the system and rely on Slaton or Schmidt to pound the ball. They would have won against Pitt and USF if Rodriguez wasn't such a stuck up, my system rocks guy. That is why WVU KILLED OSU, they didn't stick to Rodriguez's style. Didn't you guys see the laser that White whipped 50 yards downfield in like the 3rd quarter. Beautiful pass. Devine is faster than Slaton but the problem for WVU's running game last year was that the O-Line was so inexperienced. If they give White some time, I think he can through the ball better this year. Will WVU win it all...doubt it. They took alot of losses on offense, but nobody expected them to kick OSU around the field either, so it will be interesting. White however needs to add about 15 pounds to his frame if he ever, I mean ever even thinks he will sniff an NFL team at QB.
