Wolverines improve draft stats

After largely disappointing performances at the NFL Combine last month, a handful of Michigan football players got a much-needed second change at Pro Day in Ann Arbor last week. Wide receiver Mario Manningham probably saw the biggest improvement. After posting a disappointing 40-yard dash time in Indianapolis (4.59), the junior who left early to test the NFL waters posted a much more explosive mark (4.38) Friday in Ann Arbor. He posted the same 4.38 second time in the shuttle run. Like most of his ex-teammates, Manningham only participated in drills where he wanted to improve his mark from the combine. The only other workout he did was the vertical leap, where he posted a 35 inch mark -- a 3 inch improvement from his previous height. Michigan's two most highly touted athletes according to most projections, offensive lineman Jake Long and quarterback Chad Henne kept all of their times from the NFL Combine and participated solely in position drills, where both reportedly did well. Running back Mike Hart, criticized by many for posting a sub-par 40-yard dash time in Indianapolis, did not redo his 40-yard dash. He participated in three drills: the short shuttle (4.33), vertical jump (32 inches) and cone drill (6.91) ??? all improvements from his marks in Indianapolis.

Now that they don't have those pesty academic standards bothering them, they can now concentrate on football. Wait, this article ia bout University of Michigan,,,,,never mind.

Manningham is slow. I would expect him to go 2nd, 3rd round.

I think the best bang for the dollar will be Henne. To many teams need a QB, Will probably go early 2nd round. Many teams may trade up to get him. Manningham should go late 2nd round and will be another great NFL player. Jake should be in the top three players taken and might even go #1.

Manningham ran a good 40 and a lot of teams in the bottom of the first round need a receiver. I see your points but I think he holds on to a #1.
