Skiles to coach Hoosiers?
Posted: Wednesday March 19, 2008 05:51AM ET
Reports are circulating that Indiana is interested in talking to former Bulls coach Scott Skiles about taking over its chaotic program. Skiles, who grew up in Plymouth, Ind., played at Michigan State and lives near Bloomington, has never coached on the collegiate level. Spokesmen for the Indiana athletic department, when asked about the reports, said they had no knowledge of them. Skiles in the past has evinced no interest in coaching in college, but sources close to him indicated more recently that he might be open-minded about the right college opportunity.

Report Offensive CommentJust what a chaotic team ( Indiana) needs a coach who was fired by the Bulls for causing chaos !!! BRING BACK BOBBY KNIGHT !!!

Report Offensive CommentYou guys clearly don't follow NBA Basketball. While Skiles did wear out his welcome in Chicago, he did get the once lowly Bulls to play their butts off, play hard-nosed defense, and designed some innovative offensive sets. His in-your-face coaching style, combined with his loyalty to his players would work well in a college environment. NBA players grow tired of constant nagging after a couple of yeras, but in college these players would move on before Skiles has a chance to wear on them. He'd be fine as a college coach.

Report Offensive CommentNot to mention he transformed the team from perpetual cellar-dwellars, to a team with 3 consecutive playoff appearances and until this year, widely consisdered (by their peers) to be the hardest-working team in the NBA. Not exactly " a proven loser".I'm guessing PeytonMane's sports knowledge of non-Indiana sports is limited.

Report Offensive CommentThat would be a funny thing to see, ole Scott Coaching the Loosiers. He hated both IU and Purdue, because they both passed on recruiting him from HS. Having lived in Plymouth after he and his family left town, I heard many a tale (and not at all very good) of ole Scott. I tend to believe the townsfolk as they have no axe to grind.

What kind of tales are you speaking of? I'm curious. Are these tales related to his youthful propensity for drug use?

No they couldn't possibly have an axe to grind. Him leaving the state of Indiana to play for MSU didn't bother them at all. (sarcasm intended)

Actually Skiles did pretty well with a mediocre Bulls team. And as far as Indiana's track record, isn't he a step up from a cheater (Sampson), and a bully abuser (Knight)?
And for those of you delusional IU fans. KNIGHT IS NOT COMING BACK!!!! Get it through your thick skulls.

Report Offensive Comment1. Scott Skiles did well with a cellar NBA team. He brought in good talent, made smart draft choices and decent trades to keep this team growing together for a while.
2. His experience in the Big 10 and formative years in Indiana mean nothing. He should be judged on his ability to get good players (decent) and his ability to be a father figure, which is VERY important in the NCAAs.
I think Skiles is a young coach that young players can relate to. Indiana will need a tough-as-nails coach like Skiles to keep them disciplined due to obvious attitude problems and a soon-to-be lack of leadership with DJ White graduating and Eric Gordon's inevitable departure.
Give him a shot, I say.

Report Offensive CommentI'm constantly amused by the people who want Bobby Knight back in Bloomington. As a Purdue alum, I'd love that; Knight hasn't had a good team in years. IU would be mediocre at best under the General again. Matt Painter's Purdue teams would mop the floor with them. I'm all for it.
Zooropa04 | 03/19/08, 03:32 PM
Report Offensive CommentNot a chance Skiles goes to IU. The other teams in the BIG 10 would welcome that.

Report Offensive CommentDon't undermind Skiles.
I think he'd be a good coach at IU and make them play defense.
But there are more fish in the sea..
And zooropa04 all I have to say is 77 - 68.
**** dick.
5 National ships for IU, how many for Purdue?
