Heat eyeing Beasley, Rose

Pat Riley has mentioned the option of trading the No. 1 pick if the Heat lands it. But don't misinterpret that -- an NBA official who has spoken to the Heat said Miami's front office has a high regard for Kansas State power forward Michael Beasley and considers him the best prospect (generally the consensus), and also likes Memphis point guard Derrick Rose.

Who isn't?

...and it will be sunny and warm in San Diego today with a low of 68 and a high of 76.

People get paid to write this stuff?

March 19, 2008  09:17 AM ET

I think that is actually pretty interesting, the fact that they are considering trading the first pick (granted they get it). I always thought that if they drafted Beasley granted they got the first pick, then they would trade him to the Wolves (hopefully they get the second pick) for Rose because they already have Marion, Wade, and Haslem but no PG.

March 19, 2008  09:31 AM ET

Duhhhh.... a threesome of Wade, Marion, and Beasley sounds nice to start with. Now what will he do about the other 12 roster spots?

March 19, 2008  09:34 AM ET

LMAO...so now we know why Riley gets the big bucks.

March 19, 2008  09:55 AM ET

Heat lottery odds
1st pick .250
2nd pick .215
3rd pick .178
4th pick .357

The Heat are more likely to NOT get the first or second pick.

It would make more sense to scout the rest of the top 10. If perhaps they don't end up with the 1st or 2nd pick, they could still come up with an impact player. That way Riley doesn't make another stupid move like passing on Kevin Martin and taking Dorrell Wright. Maybe before being fired he could hire someone with a basketball IQ higher than his shoe size.

Watch Portland punk the lottery and get the first pick...again. =)

Beasly is a must if the Heat gets him, Riley do not trade him, Who is Derrick Rose. A point guard in the draft to go after should be either Balyss from Arizona or Tyrese Rice from Boston College.
Also Mark Blount is to soft hopefully we can replace him with one of the Lopez brothers who are centers.
And finally look @ Marion copping out about his back hurts thats BS if he was in Phx he would have played, it doesnt look like he will stay in Miami & if he doesnt return Marcus Slaughter to my Heaters from the pre-season & we should be good. Do not resign J Will replace him with a draft pic.

Heat starters for 08-09: Tyrese Rice or Balyss, Wade, Marion or Davis, Beasly & Mourning

Other 12 Heaters: Quinn, Davis, Dorell, Cook, Haslem, Banks, Barron, Alexander Johnson, a Lopez brother & Joel Anthony, Marcus Slaughter(if Marion doesnt stay)

I could be a newpaper writer in Miami.

Pat Riley wants the #1 Pick for Beasley but might trade it but dont jump to conclusion. So he might take Rose or Beasley.

Yada yada yada

March 19, 2008  02:16 PM ET

if they dont get beasly they should try sighning elton brand from free agency.

March 19, 2008  02:28 PM ET

It would be interesting to see Miami take Derrick Rose with the pick. That could mean they are prepping Rose to eventually replace D-Wade as their PG due to Wade's possible departure to Chicago in a couple years. And no J-Will is not their PG, he is prob out in Miami after the season....

March 19, 2008  03:10 PM ET

The Miami Heat are in need of FRONTLINE help. It would be ridiculous to take a point guard Rose isn't going to turn the Heat into winners. You build a basketball team from the inside out. Ask Mark Cuban.

ask mark cuban???what has dallas won??

March 19, 2008  05:26 PM ET

Beasley gives them the option of going small with Haslem at Center or trading him

March 19, 2008  05:30 PM ET

yeah, we need need a good point. maybe we can go after tj ford. he's young, and expendable in toronto. should trade blount for him (he's the softest center I've seen in a long time and probably the softest to ever play for the heat and he doesn't seem to want to change that about himself, so get rid of him quick...he can actually score in a finesse offense where he doesn't have to be physical and team noticed that) and JWill is just a choke artist. notice how his numbers are up now when it doesn't count. notice how he airballed when the game was on the line and it did count and all the missed threes when it counted, but now all of a sudden he has a hot hand. I even come to respect chris quinn's play and i think he more than replaces jwill. Jwill is made for for a running offense so i'm not saying he doesn't have skills, but not the ones the heat needs and not the heart the heat needs. Finally, most definite take beasley and move marion to shooting forward. we don't need an amazing point (look at the lakers fisher....) maybe even prying a point from overseas who can shoot the 3 may be the way to go since zone defense (team defense) is allowable in the nba.

March 19, 2008  05:37 PM ET

Oops...finally, don't let pat decide who we draft..the coaching staff all but made him pick Dwade...other good pick really was caron butler. the jury is out on Dorrell but i think he's good...so riley picks a good player every 4 years so this is his off year (two more after this one) so let someone else scout the talent and decide the pick. and finally, are coaches tradeable? what could we get for Pat riley and cash? a laker's assistant coach to run the triangle for miami...maybe the spurs waterboy...probably too much...the phoenix suns mascot....get the point..fire riley from coaching.

Nothing. That's my point. You need an inside presence in the NBA and Dallas can't seem to figure that out.
