Don't hold your breath Texas...you're all known for choking more than you're known for championships.

The Texans are traditionally strong overall, but it's not clear that one of them will end up as NBA champs. Don't forget that it's an EVEN year, which means that it's unlikely that the Spurs will win. You can never count out the Spurs, but they're not as dominant since it's not an odd year.
A more accurate statement:
"The NBA champion will come from a state that borders Mexico, or will be the Boston Celtics."
This statement leaves room for the LA Lakers, Phoenix Suns, and Celtics, as well as the three Texas teams.
I admit, earlier in the season, I did not think that the Celtics were strong enough to win the whole thing in the post-season. I thought that the Pistons were the best chance for the East. However, the trade for Cassell, plus the recent dominating play of KG and the Celtics, have convinced me that they have a chance. I guess in the East, it's a toss-up between the Pistons and Celtics.

I agree Jay...I'm definitely not a Celtics fan even though I am a Bostonian but they have been strong on all fronts this year so I would definitely say Celtics and Pistons in the East finals, however anything can happen in a 7-game series. You have a group of guys in Detroit who have serious playoff/championship experience versus a Celtic team that's hungry but hasn't had much experience in the post season.

I'd hate to open an old wound but us Bostonians know a little about great regular seasons meaning nothing (ala Patriots). The Celtics are gonna have to battle a seasoned Detroit team.

The NBA needs an interesting finals this year. Last year they lost a ton of revenue because people weren't interested in watching a "boring" Spurs team playing a Cleveland team that got lucky and made it to the finals. I say a Celtics/Lakers Finals would do the trick. You'd have the highest raings in NBA history. Going back to teh good old rivalry days.

Dale Davis I think could be a good fit with the whole 41 year old Mutombo.

With all the big games with the Red Sox, Patriots, and now the Celtics I don't think the ticker can take it anymore.........I swear these teams bring you from one extreme to the other. Phenomenal wins or losing the big games the good part is that these team are all making the post season lately. I give New York their credit but in the same breath Boston teams are playing quite well as of late.

Okay, I have an even better pattern-based rule to summarize the NBA championship contenders.
Interestingly, this rule applies very well this year, and it has applied for _most_ of the past few years as well (but not all).
Presenting... "The Rule of M"
"The NBA champion will come from a state bordering a country whose name starts with M OR from a state whose name starts with M."
The country is obviously Mexico, and Texas, Arizona, and California all border it, which encapsulates the Spurs, Rockets, Mavs, Lakers, and Suns.
The states whose names start with M are Massachusetts and Michigan, which encapsulates the Celtics and the Pistons.
Chances are, we will follow the Rule of M this year.

I thought it would be the LAKERS or Spurs vs the Celtics. But, I am not so sure anymore and I a die hard LAKERS fan. The hornets can cause some problems and Phoenix appears to be getting it together as well. And I can no longer ignore Detroit or a possible Cleveland surge.

Boston and Cleveland Beat each other up. Whoever is left in the West will be too tired for the Finals! Detroit in 6 in the Finals!!! Take it to the bank.
