Hokies dismiss All-ACC back

Branden Ore has run out of second chances at Virginia Tech, as Hokies coach Frank Beamer announced today that the one-time All-ACC tailback is no longer on the team. Ore would have been a fifth-year senior for the Hokies this fall. As a redshirt sophomore in 2006, Ore ran for 1,137 yards and 16 touchdowns, earning first-team All-ACC honors. That came after he was asked to spend the previous spring at home in Chesapeake to re-focus on academics and his commitment to the team. Before last season, Ore entered August camp out of shape and was briefly demoted to third string. He struggled through 2007 but still led Tech in rushing with 992 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was suspended, though, for the first quarter of the Orange Bowl in January after showing up late to a practice. A week later, Ore found himself in more trouble with the Hokies coaches after he had to testify in a federal drug case. He had been a passenger in a car where police found crack a year earlier. While Ore wasn't charged, his high school coach, Elisha "Cadillac" Harris, said he had a meeting with coaches and was told he was on thin ice.

Brandon Ore was overrated look what my tigers did to him didn't he have like 20 total yards.

No, Ore was a solid RB when he was on the field; however, he has issues going to meetings and issues in the classroom. The reason he had such a bad game vs. LSU was because of the offensive line, the o-line was god awful early in the season and couldn't stop anyone. Also LSU was the best team in the country last season played was a small factor into the equation.

Why is his HS School coach still called Cadillac? I think that could be one of the problems.

5th year senior? Seems like he has been there since the days of Terry Kirby?

March 20, 2008  01:47 PM ET

Terry Kirby went to University of Virginia, Cavaliers that is. If you are going to call yourself the THE TRUTH, speak it baby. VT running attack did suffer last year, unlike years in the past. They have plenty of Running Backs waiting in the wind to take his spot. Some of there problems was offensive line play and it didn't seem that Mr. Ore ran with enough authority after contact or before. I hope that he doesn't think that he will be drafted. He seem emotionally unstable.

Good move on cutting there losses with him and letting him go. OSU did the same with Clarrett and look at that bum spending his time in jail most of the time instead of making NFL millions

Many pardons Ghost...let's go with Bruce Smith shall we?

March 20, 2008  02:04 PM ET

Ghostrider, the phrase is "waiting in the WINGS". If you're going to correct others, make sure you're on point first, baby.

I said in the wind, because anything can happen at the collegiate level. You can be there one day, built on the hype of gossip from your abilities coming out of high school, and then one float away just like a gust of wind. It is the funnel effect, as you go up, the competition only gets better. Then, there is the possiblity that the talent that you have stocked piled for that particular position doesn't even live up to your expectations, as a program. For example, take your Seminoles, ever since you all played Cris Rix too soon, it has all been down hill ever since. Everyone blamed Ol' Jeff Bowden, but it wasn't all his fault. That is what is wrong with Man today, always blaming others when he should have taken responsibility as a Man. I mean, you have a nice Freshman QB coming in out of VA, EJ Manuel, if you have heard of him. He is waiting in the wind, hopefully he will lead you back too the promise land or do I need to say it differently for you to understand what my point is.
