Falcons won't miss 'MeAngelo'

Now, there's no denying that DeAngelo Hall is a great athlete. He's almost as good a cornerback as he thinks he is. So logic says this potential trade makes the Raiders better and the Falcons worse. But given the state of the Falcons franchise, Hall was more likely to be an obstacle than an asset in the immediate future. Coach Mike Smith preferred not to comment on Hall on Wednesday, partly because there's no closure, yet. But his philosophies and his values don't suggest a lot of overlap with the player who's likely headed out the door.

Someone somewhere outside of GA has got to feel bad for the Falcons.
If ever there was a team that needs help, they're it.
Thank God for the Braves

I believe that Dimitroff knows what he is doing... Not to mention, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that if a player says "I don't want to be here", to get him the heck out! Also, since Meangelo said "I don't want to play for a losing franchise", they sent him to Oakland... That's hilarious!

Also, this move saves the Falcons a ton of money... 7 years 70 million, that's a joke... What has he done is his career? 15-16 ints in 4 years... OVER-RATED and OVER-PAID!

Me Angelo...now that's original.

March 20, 2008  10:29 AM ET

Never a good player to begin with and join a bunch of other has-beens in Oakland.

"The true # 7"?

Oh that's war!

March 20, 2008  10:36 AM ET

Oh yeah, "Me Devilo" sucks.

Damn... I had to think hard for this "Me Devilo" thing.

March 20, 2008  10:54 AM ET

I think the real headline should be "send me to a franchise that gives me a shot to WIN!, and the GM says "HOw about Oakland?" and the player says. "Yah, thats sounds good!". Are we all walking around with DUMB stickers on our foreheads?

Smart Move, I'd say for DeAngelo.. He didn't really care about the team and winning.. at least he'z making the money..

This is the same idiot who proclaimed that if he had stayed around for his senior season at Va Tech in '04 that the Hokies would have won a National Title. He was vastly overrated in college, and nothing has changed in the NFL.

Name 8 better corners, currently playing. This guy is not over rated and he has something alot of players are missing today, he is competitive every game and wants to win. He was never called big mouth or overated when he played for Mora. Petrino **** Sucked. Hall called him out. As did other players who are not being called a big mouth or selfish. The falcons are going nowhere real fast. And the raiders look like a team that could be competitive next year. This the same blog where people laughed at browns fans for being optimistic last year, and I was one of them. This league only needs one or two seasons and a couple of good players to turn around. I dont agree with Al Davis's spending, but Atleast he wants to win. So many coaches and players would not come to the Falcons it was pittyful. The tuna thought the job in Miami was better than Atlanta. They had to pay turner about 10million more to get him to come here.

bushwack,
if he was so highly overrated in college, how did he become a two time pro bowler, and the guy the Falcons looked to, to cover any top WR. Drafts are full of first round busts that dont last three seasons in the league, yet alone make two pro bowls. THis guy was so me, then why did he take the blame for his mistakes, fight for his teammate when the coaches cut Jackson and banned the mention of VICK.

March 20, 2008  12:52 PM ET

The bottom line is the Falcons are rid of him. Call it watch you want they would have traded him for a "punter" to get rid of him. He doesn't need a bobble head toy made for him he has the life sized version instead. R.I.P.

March 20, 2008  01:13 PM ET

Well what do u care, he's going to oakland with all the other "has beens", considering the entire secondary will be 27 or younger, two potential pro-bowl linebackers under 27, with loads of potential for Tommy Kelly and JaMarcus Russel. Yea, nothing but "has beens"

You fellas don't forget to hate when Hall has a great season this year.

March 20, 2008  01:14 PM ET

Just because they would have taken a punter to get rid of him, does not mean it is a good move for the falcons, nor does it make hall the bust that half these bloggers are trying to call him.

March 20, 2008  01:20 PM ET

If i had a choice I would pick Atl over Oakland in a heartbeat. DeAngelo isn't going to do any better in a Raiders uniform, who is he kidding.

March 20, 2008  01:25 PM ET

Neither place is ideal, but I think he will be fine in oakland. Atlanta dropped alot of veteran talent, so it is at the beginning of rebuilding, oakland started last year but was hurt by Russell's hold out and overall bad team chemistry.
