Roy rips slippery NCAA logo

North Carolina's Marcus Ginyard slipped on the NCAA logo at midcourt during the first half and turned over the ball.Tyler Hansbrough slipped on the logo and missed an opportunity at a second-half steal for the Tar Heels. Coach Roy Williams said personnel at the RBC Center did everything within their power to keep the logo clean to prevent the logo from tripping players. But players still fell. The huge, circular, temporary logos are placed on the floor before tournament events. "Let's stop putting those stupid logos on the floor where kids slip and slide around and somebody is going to get hurt," Williams said, "and I've said that for years and years and years."

No way they remove the logo though. When people watch the games, the NCAA wants everybody to know who's running the event.

How about we just rip Myles Brand's head off?

March 24, 2008  09:41 AM ET

It's a wonder he didn't offer to have the Raleigh games moved to Chapel Hill instead.

Yeah when 2 college basketball teams are playing in Mid March..I'd be lost that it was an NCAA event w/out the 27 logos every 3 feet on the floor and the sideline banners to help me out. Does anyone not realize or even care where the games are held that we need to have the center court logo blocked?

You forgot the logo on the jersey shoulder...

I was with friends watching the games over the weekend and many of us thought those logos were computer generated like the first down and line of scrimmage graphics used during NFL games. I'm wondering if this article is a hoax.

Logo Haiku

#1
The committe thinks
that logos are appropo.
What next, neck tattoos?

#2
Myles Brand likes to brand
too much. The players jock straps
are probably next.

#3
If a player falls
on the logo, will Myles Brand's
committe hear it?

#4
No advertising
is the best advertising.
Let the logo go.

hey Roy -- this tournament is all about the NCAA hierarchy not about the kids or individual teams -- you know this. change shoes.

March 24, 2008  01:56 PM ET

ROY AINT NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH!! IT WOULD BE VERY BAD IF YOU WAS THE #1 DRAFT PICK OF THE YEAR. AND YOU SLIP AND BREAK AN ANKLE ON THAT SLICK LOGO.YOUR CAREER COULD BE OVER.

How is it that we're in the middle of the greatest event in American sports and all T & R can come up with is a story about a coach worried about a slippery center-court logo?

It is time for Sports Illustrated to shut down Fannation.com if it cannot do better than this.

...we're in the middle of the greatest event in American sports...

I couldn't agree more. March Madness is the greatest sports spectacle in all of sports, worldwide (sorry, World Cup fans). Let's go Louisville!!!

March 24, 2008  03:10 PM ET

Roy, I understand you're concern, after all someone could get hurt. However, you also need to send them a note of thanks, for having the East regional in the state of North Carolina.

March 24, 2008  03:58 PM ET

I smell a conspiradcy theory brewing when Tony's group bumps them off. Look for a Tarheel to lose his footing and Roy to lose his temper.

You know the NCAA is running a pretty good show when the biggest complaint is about their logo ...

March 24, 2008  04:29 PM ET

He just saw the video of him in the bathroom at the break. It was played on the big screen! LOL

March 24, 2008  04:34 PM ET

Get rid of the logo.... like we don't know it's the NCAA. Saw a potential over and back situation.... don't think there is a line through it ... someone correct me if I'm wrong. Just a way bad idea.... overkill.... only in America.

March 24, 2008  04:41 PM ET

Roy Williams needs to get over himself and retire.

And to think that the NCAA wanted to regulate the number of "swooshes" Nike put on colleges unis...The nerve of them...

March 24, 2008  05:23 PM ET

They should put logos on the logos and then sell advertising space on them.

really? get over himself? i could not disagree more (sorry for the double negative but i deemed it prudent) he's one of the best coaches in the country and doesn't mouth off the the ncaa very often. When he does its usually genuine.
