Penguins mum on Crosby return

Captain Sidney Crosby has accompanied the Penguins on their trip to New York, but he and team officials are noncommittal as to his status for a game against the Islanders tonight. Crosby has missed the past four games and 26 of the last 29 due to a high right ankle sprain. "I feel a lot better than I did a week ago, that's for sure," Crosby said Saturday after practicing with teammates for the first time in two weeks. "It's when I feel good enough to go, and lately, I've been feeling pretty good."

so...lately he's been feeling pretty good eh? That means he's at least another week away, if I'm coach or GM in Pittsburgh. I sure as heck wouldn't bother bringing him back for a game against the Isles...

March 24, 2008  08:12 AM ET

Yeaa, def a stupid game to bring him back for, i would just let him rest for the rest of the reg season, i mean its not like they desperatly need him or anything ...

March 24, 2008  10:13 AM ET

Why rest him if he is ready? He is the only one who knows how he feels, the injury can only get so healthy, its going to hurt him til the end of the season anyway even if he does rest more. His body wont be ready to just jump in and play playoff type hockey without a warm up. Lets let him warm up against the hapless isles

March 24, 2008  10:53 AM ET

he felt he was ready a week ago, came back, and now he's back on the Injured List. Just because he THINKS he's ready doesn't mean its in the team's best interests to let him play. What good is he if he can only play for a week then take a week off? Not all that handy in the playoffs, if you ask me. I'd rather give him the extra week off and have him be less likely to need more time off, then bring him back early and be worried he's not yet ready

March 24, 2008  11:10 AM ET

Even if he takes more time off, he isn't going to be 100% until next season after he has the off season to really baby the ankle. He will probably play through the playoffs in pain. Last year a broken foot, this year a sprained ankle.

March 24, 2008  11:14 AM ET

Might as well keep him out til the playoffs. The Pens will survive the last three weeks without him, let him get as healthy as possible for the playoff run.

March 24, 2008  01:21 PM ET

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa

March 24, 2008  01:21 PM ET

I think it would be a better idea to let joec play than to let Crosby play in back to back games initially. (See Dupis may join Crosby-Hossa) rumor. Good one joec.

moondizzle.. i second that.. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.. its a shame its not a broken neck

March 24, 2008  02:39 PM ET

man, how many t&r's can they have about crosby's return. how about a t&r about how the pens are going to win the eastern conf.

March 24, 2008  04:00 PM ET

If he and the Pens are smart, they will have him sit and heal his wound. Then let him play in the final game to warm up and have him ready for the playoffs.

March 24, 2008  06:42 PM ET

Well he should get going soon so they gain confidence and momentum before the playoffs start.

bostongm, moondizzle, and joezullo, first, let me say that it's great that three of you met on fannation and can now spend your nights together drawing straws to see who will have to walk the lhasa apsas in the morning.

yes, wishing that sidney crosby gets a broken neck is classless, even for you JoeZullo. What if a customer in your local coffeeshop/gas station/bailt shop said something like that about your barista/handler of night crawlers?

moondizle and JoeZullo, please make sure you get the plastic AND glass containers tomorrow morning. Dr. Weldose

And that it's not yours. What a lame comment to make.

March 25, 2008  09:44 AM ET

Looks like we were all mistaken. Maybe he should have played last night against the Isles....hahahahhah...

March 25, 2008  12:25 PM ET

bostongm, I see your point, I just hope its not the case that with Crosby since he has had injuires before he came to the NHL and they say he is quick to recover from his injuries. What scares me though is that this is two injuries in two seasons.

March 25, 2008  05:15 PM ET

it seems to me ppl have forgotten that Crosby was last yrs mvp! and before he was hurt he was also leading the league in points, 10-15 more than the current nhl leaders. once a hater always a hater I suppose!!!
