South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia is in trouble again, and university officials will decide whether the much-maligned freshman gets another chance. Garcia, 20, was one of three players cited and charged with underage drinking after police found them with coolers of beer outside East Quad dormitory at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, the first of two incidents involving Garcia in a five-hour span at the dorm that houses the majority of USC players.

Spurrier will forgive him...until Smelley proves he can be the guy. Then Garcia is gone.

Please get rid of this poser! I would rather be 2-10 and have players with integrity than to go 10-2 and have a bunch of kids acting like adults on my team. Miami Hurricanes and Patriot fans you know what I am talking about!

In a big time program, boosters don't care about integrity as much as they care about winning...

He's a baller, shot caller. Serously the guy needs to settle down, fortunately it has not been "frlony" level activity, but he needs to stop and decide what he wants to do, before real problems show up. This typeof stuff can nolonger be swept under the rug from NCAA & media scruitny, like it was doing the 70's and the decades before. Yes, I am saying that much of the same stuff players do to day (and get dragged throught the mud) happened during the earlier decades. The difference being the big schools could sweep it under the rug, because not one wanted to be the one who got "The Program" in trouble. I am not just talking about South Carolina, or any particular conference, I mean all of them.

March 25, 2008  11:30 AM ET

Seriously (sorry about the typos)

March 25, 2008  11:36 AM ET

Drinking beer and being drunk make the kid "troubled"? That means that about 90% of college students in the US are "troubled" and should be expelled from their colleges. Okay, he had chances, but how about sending him to rehab instead of kickin his a ss out. He's not exactly Pacman Jones.

March 25, 2008  12:17 PM ET

this isn't his first issue while at SC. he was cited w/ underage drinking last year. in another incident, he keyed a visiting professors car.

March 25, 2008  01:02 PM ET

I'm a Gamecock Fan! The kids a loser and if he's that stupid how can he be a leader of a football team? He's had enough chances he needs to be released!

March 25, 2008  01:28 PM ET

Since when did SC become a big time program Wa2Sea? This kid needs to transfer to Alabama where he would fit right in.

March 25, 2008  01:57 PM ET

South Carolina is a big time program not like USC or LSU but they have become a force in recruiting they have one of the best coaches of our time and have a large fan base. Thats the definition of big time programs.

March 25, 2008  04:31 PM ET

Underage drinking? Come on.... how many of you had beers (or other stuff) taken away from you by the cops when you were in college. I personally think that drinking is a really bad thing..... but really.... it's hardly a news flash that kids in college sometimes drink (illegally). You don't kick a kid off the team for that, or you might not have a team. You have an assistant coach take him out to the stadium at 6:00 a.m. and have him run stadium steps for an hour or two. That usually gets the message across. If the kid is a block head and keeps doing it, then you have to consider booting him.

March 25, 2008  04:35 PM ET

..... also I thought big time programs produced at least an occasional 10 win season. 7-5 is not big time in the real world (meaning outside of South Carolina).... just because the fans have nothing else to do on Saturdays except support a mediocre team doesn't make it a big time program. Stop with the delusions of grandeur!

Cowboystar

Dude, with that star on the helmet you should know how many great players not only drank but played drunk. I have heard that Don Meredith did and Babe Ruth and Mantle were hammered most of the time. (Max McGee played his best game in the SB wth the world's worst hangover.) Just because athletes drink apparently doesn't make them bad players or bad leaders.

However, it does make them in need of help maybe. This is a kid we're talking about and SC should try to help him before kicking his a ss off the team. If he's an alcoholic, it's only going to get worse. Put him on probation for a year and get him counselling for chrissakes.

March 25, 2008  05:35 PM ET

Suspended until mid-Aug, kicked out of housing, has to "re-apply" for entry (if he wants to come back), and has to go to counseling.

Typical Spurrier player.....Arrogant coach = arrogant players...Rules don't apply to them...

March 25, 2008  07:07 PM ET

The kid is a punk....but I really hope they keep him. With that kind of decision making, he should be a "real force" on the field. Spurrier is turning into a joke! Everybody knows South Carolina is the place where football coaches come to die. His legacy is being severely damaged.
Wa2Sea, the only reason Carolina has such a loyal fan base is because THERE IS NOTHING TO DO IN THIS DUMP OF A TOWN and the majority of the fanbase are inbred.

"Typical Spurrier player"

Typical whiny Seminole...

March 25, 2008  10:39 PM ET

Hey look, Jim's back!

In response to the title: nope. This is the one QB that Spurrier has a shot at truly coaching into becoming a winning QB. Mitchell wasn't even Spurrier's recruit. Smelley ain't the guy, so it's gonna have to be Garcia. It's gonna be hard to coach him when he's not on the team until August though. At least he has one month to work with him.

There's no open container law on UGA's campus 24/7, but there is a law against underage possession tho. If you're underage and drinking outside of your dorm, then you need to get caught.

If The UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA has any B-LLS at all they will get rid of this young man. If not and PROBABLY not HE will get into more TROUBLE
