Wild owner will pay playoff premium
The price that incoming Wild owner Craig Leipold will end up paying for the NHL team next month will depend on whether the team gets into the playoffs and how deep it goes into the postseason. Should the Wild not make the playoffs, Leipold's price will be $250 million. It could exceed $260 million, depending on playoff success, because of additional revenue the team would enjoy.

good deal for the outgoing ownership. This team will undoubtedly make the playoffs, barring some catastrophic collapse, and the old ownership is basically going to make all the profits from that. MInd you, it's likely only going to be one series worth of profits...

I don't know GoCanada...I'm an AVS fan andI see a lot of potential for this team to surprise a few teams in the playoffs. They get hot at the right time and no one will dispense of this team easily, if at all.

Agreed Tribe. But they could also have a collapse . But they should not be overlooked. I really don't want to play them in the first round.

I'd rather not play them at all the rest of the season but we know that isn't in the cards ArisDragon. AVS better not go through another 4 game losing streak or they'll be watching the playoffs on TV like the rest of us. If they don't make the playoffs this year I would think that Quenneville may be in the unemployment line.

Tribe> Putting Quenneville in the unemployment line would be foolish.
At this point 3rd rank placement is up for grabs. If the Wild falter down the stretch I agree with Go, early exit. Any team taking 7 or 8 rank will also exit in the first round. The Wild are the least of the Avs worries.

No they will not. They want to play in the playoffs and will pull it together. I think last nights shut out was a sign of things to come. I have to agree with Baun on this one. The Wild are the least of our worries. San Jose is who we should be concerned with or possibly the Ducks.
Joel will be around no matter what. It would be dumb to dump him.

I just think with the run the AVS had in being in first place every year and making quality playoff runs with a cup or two thrown in. If the team goes two years without making the playoffs, someone is going to have to go. Most times than not it is the coach. I didn't say it would be a good move, I just think it will be a move that may happen. The shutout a sign of things to come I hope is true, but lets not forget the 7 goals a few short days before this shutout that Edmonton put on our two goalies. To me it just seems our defense/goalies are too inconsistent. As for SJ and the Ducks being our biggest concern, we need to get to the playoffs first before they are concern. Lets not forget we are now in the 7th slot but have the same points as Vancouver but we've played 2 more games than they have. If we end up being the 8th seed we will have to play Detroit in the first round. Talk about quick exits from the playoffs. In the four games we've played them this year they have beaten us 4 -2, 1-0, 2-0 and 4-0. The last time we scored on the RedWings was Dec. 27th. So I think we should worry about making the playoffs and NOT being the 8th seed. Otherwise we'll never see SJ or the Ducks.

Must be nice for Leipold to go somewhere they actually care about the game. Oh, and if he had of taken Balsillie's offer for Nashville I'm sure the price for Minnesota wouldn't have looked so steep.

this team has the standing it has because of what it did at the start of the season - just like the Sens in the east. They have had a bad second half, and continue to play hot and cold hockey. They came back down to earth, and the only move they could make to "improve" themselves at the deadline was bringing in Simon? One and Done is my call for this team, unless they can play someone in their own division, because they match up well with those teams. SJ, Anaheim and Detroit won't even have to dress full squads if they play these guys first round, haha

You can add the Flyers to that list Go and the Bruins for that matter.

what success? If they win the division, THEN they can consider it a success, otherwise they are in no better shape this year than they finished last year...

Who cares about winning the division? A success means getting past the 1st round of the playoffs!
I just hope Leipold can shake things up a little. Their attempt to build from within is lagging with poor drafts and I truly believe the game has moved beyond Lemaire's style. Seriously, weren't some of the rule changes a few years ago specifically meant to prevent the "Lemaire Neutral Zone Trap?"

The Wild seem to play like whatever the media tells them they are playing like. "They'll be amazing", and at the beginning of the year they were. "They are about to slump" , so they do and nose dive. Either the media controls this team or Lemaire can't make adjustments.

The wild are young, talented and dare I say experienced enough now to make a run this year. Adding Simon was a huge boost and a pleasant surprise. After seeing that idiot in San Jose take out Foster in a horribly cheap play, evry knucklehead out there better watch your back if you mess with us when Boogy, Simon or Fedoruk are in the line-up. Did I mention the hottest scorer in the West, Gaborik. Go Wild!!!
