Panthers interested in Jets DT

Keep an eye on evolving situation involving Jets' defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson. He might, just might, become a target of the Panthers. They tried to include him in the transaction when they traded for former Panthers defensive tackle Kris Jenkins. But Carolina wanted draft picks -- they received a third- and fifth-rounder -- and didn't want to inherit Robertson's big contract, according to sources. Cincinnati, Denver and Detroit have been involved in trade talks with the Jets regarding Robertson (6-1, 317 pounds). The Bengals reportedly were going to give the Jets a fourth- and fifth-round pick, but he failed Cincinnati's physical and the deal fell through.

Just wait to he gets cut. Hopefully that's what the Broncos are thinking.

The Broncos need a lot of help on Defense. They are going backwards.......

March 26, 2008  07:33 AM ET

The broncos need help everywhere but at o-line and rb. They could end up last in the AFC West.
I could see a number of teams going after him especially at 2-3 low draft picks

March 26, 2008  08:11 AM ET

The Panthers are cheap, they may wait till he is cut too

March 26, 2008  09:18 AM ET

Even if he gets cut, he can only go to one team. Sometimes it's worth it to just pay the money and guarantee that you get the player, as opposed to getting into a bidding war after the fact.

I would have my doubts acquiring any player coached previously by Mangina !!!

jackmanrob is wrong...Panthers are not cheap, but they give the big bucks
to the wrong players..
Sign him Carolina as you need alot of help....

March 26, 2008  01:16 PM ET

How can he pasds one teams physical and not anothers??He is not healthy enough to play for the Bengels, but he is for Carolina? The Jets overpaid this guy from the beginning. Why would anyone want to help them out their BIG mistake?"

March 26, 2008  02:45 PM ET

50year: Granted, the Jets overpaid, but Robertson is still a pretty good talent in the 4-3. It was just playing in the 3-4 that caused his stock to drop. I'd suspect that Carolina knows that.

March 26, 2008  06:12 PM ET

TwoStepBend ...You could be right, maybe he is not a two gapper but a man on man 4-3 lineman. But the question remains, why did he fail a physical for the Bengals.

March 26, 2008  07:07 PM ET

I read somewhere he has a bone-on-bone thing with one of his knees so that might be the issue with the physical. Regardless, he is due a $3 million bonus June 1 so likely to be released. Without a new contract, I wouldn't waste the draft pick(s) or the cap hit for the remainder of the 7-year $54 million deal he signed as a rookie. Just wait until he's released unless they think it's more of a risk not to. Further, they didn't pay Jenkins but the would Robertson? Hmmmm....

March 26, 2008  08:36 PM ET

americanphils ... Exactly. You said it best, it is what I was trying to say in the beginning. Why pay the big contract the Jets gave him. He is not worth it, but he is worth something. They will release him, just wait..They need all the money they can get to redo the contracts of guys like Cole and others who are not happy about the money they threw at other guys. Right or wrong..
