USC to pick QB this spring

The decision probably will not be announced until the end of spring practice, but USC offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian left no doubt that the Trojans intend to go into the summer with a quarterback entrenched as the starter. Junior Mark Sanchez entered the spring as the acknowledged leader in a competition with sophomore Mitch Mustain and redshirt freshman Aaron Corp. All three impressed Tuesday during a two-hour, full-squad workout that was conducted with no pads. Sanchez appeared in command of the offense, demonstrating arm strength and mobility in individual and team drills.

Sanchez is the obvious choice. He's the only one to actually play. Mustain is a better QB though.

It has to be Sanchez!!!! Please....

March 26, 2008  08:21 AM ET

Yeah he has arm strength......beating up coeds always helps with strengthening.

March 26, 2008  08:54 AM ET

Not that you're wrong about that Styburn, but for someone who uses a Cowboy avatar on fannation, should you really be pointing out the legal troubles of other programs?

March 26, 2008  10:37 AM ET

I think Mustain might be the big surprise here.... the local alums seem to think he's going to win this battle.... and has been really working out hard to be ready for the spring battle. Sanchez didn't impress last year while Booty was out..... standards are high in USC-land & I don't think Sanchez has the goods.... not to say that he wouldn't start for 90% of the other programs out there.

Personally I want Mustain; I live in GA and saw a lot of him as a freshman at Arkansas, he is very good. Has good foot movement , a good arm and reads the defense well. Please know, this takes nothing away from Sanchez.

How does Stybun know so much about beating up coeds? Sounds like Stybun may have some experience in that realm.

March 26, 2008  11:36 AM ET

Sanchez is the one

March 26, 2008  11:55 AM ET

The RB situation needs to be addressed too.

March 26, 2008  12:04 PM ET

Who really cares no matter who they bring in at QB he is going to be awesome. USC is so deep that it doesn't matter.

March 26, 2008  12:44 PM ET

They need to be more focused on the defensive line. That will be USC's weakness next year.

March 26, 2008  01:59 PM ET

Doesnt matter WHO they start next year, USC is lookin at a 3 loss season EASY!!! OSU is gonna wax them, and ASU is gonna be the next toughest game, so again it doesnt matter

March 26, 2008  02:14 PM ET

Sanchez lost the Oregon game last year. Yeah, he'll be great.

March 26, 2008  02:27 PM ET

OSU4Life, you sound worried. SC might put up 40+ points on y'all.

March 26, 2008  02:30 PM ET

Im not sure what Nutt was doin at Arkansas when he didnt play Mustain for the whole year... Sanchez showed me nothin last year... Mustain leads USC to the champ game only to lose to a SEC team

March 26, 2008  02:49 PM ET

Stybun - you're clueless.
THE "university of ohio state" - if that's your wife, sorry.
IrishR#1 - i agree, lossing two all-americans is tough, but the OL is gonna be tough, losing four starters, though the new starters all have experience bc of the OL injuries last year. the DL is helped out by the fantastic LB core.

People forget sanchez was the #1 pro-style QB in his class in 05. he can play and the coaches prefer to go the safe route when it comes to personnel choices.

Mustain and Williams... Expect BIG things from these guys!

Sanchez is too sketchy!

Bigger things from Johnson & McKnight, that is, if Sarkisian wants to win instead of trying to make himself look like a genius.

March 26, 2008  03:08 PM ET

I think it is Sanchez job to lose but you know that Mustain didn't transfer because he thought he would sit on the bench. It should be interesting to see how it plays out although being deep at QB is a good problem for a team to have.

March 26, 2008  03:09 PM ET

Did I just say something nice about USC...?

March 26, 2008  03:15 PM ET

Rojo and Joe... They good too!

I like Sanchez don't get me wrong... He just needs to take those skates off!

Fight On!
