Red Bulls can't afford Vargas

Posted: Wednesday March 26, 2008 08:10AM ET

Red Bulls head coach Juan Carlos Osorio sang the praises of Venezuelan midfielder Ronald Vargas, calling him an excellent player, but Osorio made it clear that Vargas is not a target of the Red Bulls. "He is a very good player but he is not someone we can afford," Osorio said at Red Bulls media day on Tuesday. "Not with teams in Europe and Argentina getting ready to make big offers for him."

Well, that's a shame, but if he's good enough to go over to the good side, then let him.

Damned salary cap. Now a team owned by Red Bull can't afford a player because it can't fit his salary under the cap. Makes me wish Reyna's hamstrung **** would just give up the DP slot.

Yeah, Reyna was absolutely nothing last season. He better improve this year, or there will be some angry New Yorkers running around. New Yorkers don't take to well to losing, so they better turn it around and get Juan Pablo Angel a little help. If they do, they have a chance to be a real dynasty for a couple of seasons.

I am glad MLS has a salary cap. I am so sick of the same teams always dominating Europe. Though, I do think the Cap should be increased in the very near future.

Report Offensive Comment

Yeah, the cap is OK for competitive balance and keeping the costs of players acquisitions somewhat sane, but increasing the cap will make the competition even more fun to watch. Must......be.......pa....tient.

there spending to much money on these player. New England Revolution are being smart and looking for unkown talent that cheap.

Report Offensive Comment

I think the games are most fun when they are the most competitive. I would rather watch an MLS game compared to Man Utd v Derby any day.

Yeah, there is no way he would pick the Red Bulls over a chacne to play at a top Argentine or Brazilian club or in Europe. MLS just doesn't have enough prestige at the moment, unless the Red Bulls offer him an unreal amount of money.
