Marion to seek Heat extension
Shawn Marion played about as well as the Heat could have expected before his recent back spasms, but their relationship will be tested this summer. Though Marion and agent Dan Fegan aren't ready to discuss their intentions, this much is clear: Marion would like to clarify his future this summer and is expected to ask the Heat for an extension beyond the remaining year on his contract. But it's difficult to envision the Heat making that commitment. The Heat privately has indicated a willingness to speak to Marion about a multiyear deal, but it would be surprising if it happens because Miami covets salary-cap space in 2009.

Marion, you better get your butt out of Miami. You will either be traded for the sake of rebuilding or you will be stuck on a rebuilding team that already gave away a first round draft pick.

If I was Marion and I actually cared about contending for a championship, then I would leave.

Groucho Marx once said that he would never belong to an organization that would have him. The question here in reverse is why the Heat would want any player that wants to stay with their sorry franchise. The scenario should be that the Heat are begging him to stay while they rebuild, not Marion asking for an extension...... does he want to have longer off season vacations, or something?

If Marion wanted to win a championship, he should opt out and play for a contender. If he chooses to stay, he will look back and remember being the wanting to get out of PHX and be disappointed that he had to play for the Heat.

Considering how crazy Cuban is and how he spends, I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas talks to Marion next season.
Marion can fit on almost any team due to his versatile talent. The summer should be a very interesting period.

I'm really not too sure about Marion. This is a guy that left a contender because he wanted to be "The Man." If winning isn't the top priority, then it's all about the money. Miami should keep him if they can. Beasley isn't a guarantee because they may not get the #1 pick--and I'm not sure that Rose would be a good idea immediately. Point guards take time to develop in the NBA. Before everyone forms a lynch mob, Chris Paul was the exception, not the rule.

Nobody in their right mind would offer Marion a max extension. He's good but he's not franchise player good.

Also, the Heat should pick Derrick Rose first overall.

PGs do take time to develop, but if you have the right pieces around one, it can speed it up. D. Wade was never 100% this season. You get a healthy D.Wade, Marion, try and get another solid big men, Rose could fit in.

If Shawn Marion stays with the Heat, I hope that 2 things happen:
- They sign him to a stable long-term contract
- They start rebuilding around Marion and D-Wade fast and furiously.
Otherwise, Marion should head elsewhere to a contender.
Marion is one of the best all-around players in the league, kind of like a Scottie Pippen. He deserves to play for a team that has a shot at getting to the Finals. Phoenix had to give him up because they needed bait in order to get more size, but otherwise, they should not have parted with him.

Marion should get out of Miami Heat and see if he could play with #23 or # 24

He could go anywhere and I give him a max deal right now. He could play next to Kobe, Tim Duncan, LeBron, Dirk or even KG and make any of these teams almost unstoppable.

Marion is a fool. he wanted out from the Suns only to be denied of an extension by the rebuilding Heat. teams will think twice before giving him 20mil per he so desires. and there are few teams with that much cap space. lets face it, hes a stat machine but not a franchise player.

The Heat don't need a franchise point guard. Wade needs the ball in his hands to be effective. All they need is a decent point guard who is a dead-eye shooter. Their most pressing need is a franchise center who can rebound, block shots, and score in the post. Haslem is free to shoot those 10-15 footers on the perimeter. The problem is I don't see a center good enough in the draft. I guess they could get Beasley and trade Haslem for a good center. If they could pull that off they would be in good shape.
