Pacman: 'I'm at end of the cliff'

Adam "Pacman" Jones spent part of Tuesday just a few football fields away from where the new Cowboys stadium is under construction. Jones, the Titans cornerback under suspension since April 2007 for violating the NFL conduct policy, was in full reconstruction mode, trying to repair an image damaged by numerous off-the-field issues. In a risky, yet desperate move, Jones talked for three hours on the Michael Irvin radio show. Jones said he must change his ways and would be lucky to get a second chance to play in the NFL. "Man, I'm at the end of the cliff, and if I slip off, I fall off," Jones said. Jones said he plans to stay away from strip clubs and takes responsibility for any problems he may have caused. "I'm bettering myself, and I'm hopeful I can get a second chance," he said. "It's a privilege [to play in the NFL], and it can be taken away from you. Don't take it for a joke."

Yeah, stable individual. Let's bring him to Dallas. Keep walking Pacman.

Sounds good, but if he is forreal it is a win win for the cowboys. We get potentially great corner and special teams' player, which will allow us to shop for a wide receiver and running back in the draft.

They really won't regret losing a 5th round pick.......

March 26, 2008  07:16 AM ET

Call me a sucka, but for some reason I believe him! Go for it "D"!

March 26, 2008  07:16 AM ET

Any susbstance on how he is "bettering himself"?? What has he done that he can point to?

What does the media expect pro athletes to say in situations like Pacman's? "As soon as I heard the trade talks, wham, a gram up each nostril. I called my friend to bring over a passle of hookers so we could party."

OF COURSE he and every other athlete we can all remember, when publicly speaking about their last busting, carries on apologetically - promising reform, better times, and a clean act if only they could be given another chance. They all use the same expressions (how many times you heard "I know I probably don't deserve it, but all I ask is for a second chance..."), and outlets.

Is Pacman for real going cleaner? I dunno. Is he still a weealthy kid drunk on cash? I have no idea. All I know is that my assumptions about his going clean would NOT be based on standard, scripted apologies. I have to imagine that the Dallas Cowboys' organization is looking at a bit more than Pacman's promises.

I assume that Dallas has already laid a pile of feathers under the deal.

Michael Irvin has a radio show? Really????

March 26, 2008  07:40 AM ET

Pacman's a ****, T.O.'s a ****, Romo's a sumbag, Michael Irving's a **** .. Just add him to the list of Dallas ****!

March 26, 2008  07:41 AM ET

I heard a portion of the radio interview. Evidently all of the surrounding local media and a few of the Bristol ESPN elites were there to meet ole Adam. Of what all I heard, there was a lot of hedging, provisos, and "that didn't really happen" I mean he ONLY had $60k in the bag, not $80k! Time to get the story straight reporters!

Michael Irvin has a radio show? Really????

Vikingfan | 03/26/08, 07:39 AM

on ESPN 103.3 FM in Dallas. If you're a fan of the guy it's great listening. If your not, then you hold your eardrums for the assault that they take during that 3 hours in the morning/afternoon. LOL

Staying away from strip clubs?

The economic devastation that will rain down on the single moms and coeds in this industry as a result of this will force the President to order a massive FEMA operation!

Don't do it Pac! It's not good for America!

I keep hearing all these FN experts saying how great it would be to have him play and that he's a great corner and a great player and blah blah blah.
The kid is 24 yrs old. Exactly what has he done that deserves all this praise? The only reason anyone knows his name is for his off field fun. Not his on field accomplishments.

I find it humorous that Jones would specifcially spell out what teams HE is interested in, considering that he hasnt been reinstated, the draft is less than a month away and noone is gonna touch him before he's reinstated.

Don't bother slipping Pacman.. Jump.

March 26, 2008  07:59 AM ET

he is on the edge of a cliff and he should probaly jump. Hold hands with crackhead irvin when you do it. Strip club bouncers everywhere would rejoice. ****hole

March 26, 2008  08:01 AM ET

Cowboystar, you're a sucker. If he was serilus about not going to strip clubs maybe he wouldn't have gone to one the night before his meeting with the commish. The guy is a joke, but maybe a year seeing what his life is like without football has opened his eyes. I really hope he gets his life straightened out.

March 26, 2008  08:06 AM ET

If the Cowboys trade him for a conditional 2009 draft pick than what's the lost? If he doesn't get reinstated, the Titans get nothing. Even if they do trade him for a 4th or 5th RD pick it's not that big of a gamble. And I'm sorry, Pacman Jones is still better than any 4th or 5th RD draft pick you get. And as far as what has he done on the field? Not too much yet. But the last year he played he did show some skills. 4 ints, avg. 26 yds a return, and led the league in punt return avg. and also had 3 punts return TDs.

March 26, 2008  08:21 AM ET

arent the old sayings "at the end of my rope" or "at the edge of the cliff" ?
He's confusing his metaphors.. among other things.

jj. just out of curiousity, at what point does the league show a united front and say to a player. No. This behavior is NOT acceptable and you have forfeited your opportunity to play in the NFL and be a millionaire? At what point - especially after Lewis and Carruth and Vick, do the teams get together for the the good of the league and say. Shape up or ship out. ?

March 26, 2008  08:38 AM ET

He's mixing his metaphors. He's putting the cart before the gift horse in the mouth. I don't think it's the strip clubs that are the problem. I'd say the drunkenness, violence, random shootings, and general asshattish behavior are what gets him in trouble.
