Gamecocks rework QB competition

Posted: Thursday March 27, 2008 08:47AM ET

A day after South Carolina's three-man quarterback competition became a two-man scrum, the Gamecocks talked about moving forward while wishing the best for suspended freshman Stephen Garcia. Chris Smelley and Tommy Beecher took the reps during team drills at Wednesday's practice, USC's first since Garcia was suspended until Aug. 15 following his latest run-in with the law. Garcia will be allowed to finish this semester at USC, but he is suspended from summer school and must comply with a number of stipulations, including drug testing and alcohol counseling, if he hopes to be readmitted to the university in August.

It's Not!

It appears that Garcia did not give them much of an option. They are definitely trying to keep him eligible for the season it it really in Garcia's court not to screw this up (again).

It quite interesting how many lives this Garcia phuck up has. Even more interesting that the KAWKS are still giving him a chance even though they can't control him. The kid is poison.

Report Offensive Comment

Yeah, well, this should be Garcia's last chance and then Spurrier and SC can be done with it. If he fails this, then it's up to the kid's parents and/or family to deal with. I applaud SC for going this far with him instead of just dumping him.

Spurrier will give this kid one more shot. If he messes up again, then he is gone.

It's too easy. I was thinkin my little head off as to how I could use it, but it's all so obvious and easy that it's not worth it.

Report Offensive Comment

Seems pretty obvious to me that this elderly coach is having trouble controlling his players. This is just as funny as the free shoes incident at Florida State, don't you think, Steve-O?

A lot of talk about a QB that has not taken a snap.. Behind the media shadow being cast by Garcia, Carolina has a true strong leader in Chris Smelley. I do not think that Spurrier has to accept any blame for a few player's off the field activities. He got caught drinking underage.... Yes, illegal but it's not like the kid is drugging girls, stealing, or even fighting just a stupid picked a stupid place to drink. He has a done this in the past too, also I say no big deal but not being able to outrun the cop.. C'mon you expect to evade the SEC's DEs and LBs chasing you down. Now the whole keying the visiting prof's car was a total |)ick move. If he stays he'll get another shot but I cannot stand behind keeping if he does not turn his way of life around. It does not matter anyways Smelley was going to be the starter anyways, Garcia was going to maybe be used like a freshman Tebow for spread situations, Ohh as for kawk jokes, I think they all have been said before, te program has been around for a while now and at least they do not have some generic name like tigers......

If refering to LSU when you say that your wrong LSU's name does have some history behind it. LSU's first football coach named them in 1898 the fighting Tigers because his dad was in a group named the fighting tigers during the Cival War who were just basicly people who roamed around Louisiana fighting the North soliders. They were kinda like the kids in Red Dawn. And LSU is purple and Gold because he wanted to make LSU Marti Gras colors, but the store was out of green thank God how ugly would Purple, Green, and yellow jersey's be.

If your refering to LSU

Report Offensive Comment

No, not LSU. I actually like those Tigers and was unaware of the back story behind the name. That is very cool. I am reffering to our in-state rivals that stole your team name, stadium name, and almost your colors... they could not afford the gold and had substitute orange. Gamecocks are named after Thomas Sumter, a revolutionary war hero that fought in SC, he got the nickname because of "fierce fighting tactics regardless of his size" (his militia).

Katt, I don't like that insolent tone. Just for that, Dawgs are beating y'all 79-0 this year.

Report Offensive Comment

Thank you LSUrocks1, that was very informative, and I'd like to hear more stories like that. I need to go research my team's mascot.

It is definatly a game I am mote interested in playong 2nd, GA is going to be toough to play third this year. I think you have a great shot at the NT, but you have a long road to go. Don't be be Spurrier hating just because of a little whoopin he did to you back in the day. Carolina will beat the dawgs again, and again ruin your chance at the NT. But if we fail to do anything this year I want GA in the East and LSU in the West, the way it should have been this year. See ya in Sept.
