Patriots mum on Watson surgery

Posted: Friday March 28, 2008 06:40AM ET

Patriots tight end Benjamin Watson underwent surgery on his left ankle within the past few weeks, a procedure that revealed cartilage damage and scar tissue, according to several sources familiar with the situation. When asked about the surgery yesterday at Gillette Stadium, Watson, who was taking part in the team's offseason conditioning program, had little to say. "I can't talk about it," he said. "You'll have to ask coach (Bill) Belichick." According to sources, the surgery was performed at Massachusetts General Hospital by Dr. George Theodore, the same surgeon who operated on Red Sox ace Curt Schilling's ankle following the 2004 World Series.

This is surprising. Normally the Patriots are so open about their injury report.
