Morrison faces uncertain future

Posted: Friday March 28, 2008 09:19AM ET

Is this how it ends? Brendan Morrison never wanted to play anywhere else, but a devastating knee injury and contract uncertainty may have jeopardized his career as a valuable Canucks center. Morrison suffered a season-ending ACL [anterior cruciate ligament] tear of his right knee Wednesday in a second-period collision with Avalanche defenseman Ruslan Salei. And because Morrison faces surgery and another summer of rehabilitation as an unrestricted free agent, his market value likely won't be as high.

It's Not!

Isnt he gone 4-6 months?Ouch.I would be surprised if he got an offer for over 1 million per year.He has to prove his knee is not shot.

Sounds like there is a very good opportunity here for the Leafs to take advantage of. He'll like Toronto much better and the Leafs need leadership. Coliacavo will have a training buddy and we save 5 million by not re-signing the Egg.

likely? This guy has been a bust since he signed his big contract. His numbers dropped - numbers he only got in the first place because he was playing on the best line in hockey at the time - and he's become injury prone. He better plan on $2 mil per year offers, because anyone that offers him more is a fool. If he wants to stay with Vanny, he'll have to take the Hometown Discount, because otherwise I think they are putting this guy out on the curb. This is a team that needs to re-build, badly. The Defence isn't horrid, but lacks a star, and the offense is anemic this side of the Sedins. The goaltending is all they have to stand on. Its Bob Luongo and a bunch of plugs. Missing the playoffs may be the best thing that could happen to open Nonis' eyes, who is riding the Luongo trade thievery a little too much now - he has to make a move, or risk his job, in my eyes

Agree with eveything you said Go, the offence left this team when Bert broke Moore's neck. Goodbye Bert, goodbye Crawford, goodbye Naslund-Bert-Morrison line, hello massive pressure on Sedins, hello Luongo, hello Vaingault(sp?) goodbye offense, goodbye Morrison.

Im torn here...i like Morrison...but i hate the Canucks sooooo much....

No kidding Go, I like Morrison too Peter, and I'll echo the same sentiments as Baun-ded did above, if the Leafs can get him for around 1 mill for 1 year, than I'd welcome him to Leaf Nation with open arms.

Would love to see this guy in a Leafs uniform..., I think $1 million for a year is the right amount for this guy. He's been a great player for the Nucks for a long time but, I think he needs a change of scenery and in Toronto..., there will be a lot of it!

Do you guys really think that the Leafs need another old, beat up player at the end of his career? I thought you wanted CHANGE in Toronto?

Report Offensive Comment

You got that right goC. It's too bad that this had to happen. NY Rangers anybody? They like to sign guys that are hurt and/or past their prime (Bure, Jagr, etc..).

Whoa, dude is 33? Wow, for some reason I thought he was younger than that. I'm going to have to retract my previous statement, I was under the impression he was like 28-29.

Report Offensive Comment

Uh oh, if he misses 4-6 months, he'll miss the first half of the playoffs.

Here's what nathan9311 thinks of the miltary people dying in Iraq:

'Heck, I'm American and I agree that the Iraq war is a big pile of dogsh*t and has been since it began. I'm not too worried though, it's not me getting blown up for nothing. '
