The Cubs granted nonroster infielder Alex Cintron his unconditional release Wednesday, the same day Orioles president Andy MacPhail declared the Brian Roberts trade talks all but dead. The two are somewhat related. Cubs manager Lou Piniella had told Cintron on Tuesday that he had been beaten out by infielders Ronny Cedeno and Mike Fontenot.

All but dead?

ALL BUT DEAD!?!?!?!?!?

This rumor was stillborn! I know that FN doesn't write this crap, that they just scour the land for reports, but there HAD to be something else out there this morning....ANYTHING else.

Man- this has got to be the worst news day in MLB history, article about the Yankees, article about Barriod Bonds, a team looking for pitching, AND now the Roberts "deal dead?" This has been going on longer than it took to deal Johans **** earlier in the season...
<insert deep dramatic sigh here>
Oh well, I guess I can just check off waisted time on FN for the day now...

yeah agreed A FACT.....whole heartedly agree that this is one of the worst T&R days ever!!

this topic is being beaten like a baby seal and im getting tired of having other news put in there as if it made any differnece whatsoever in the supposed trade thats not happening for another 3 months if EVER...i see the trade for coco crisp happening sooner than the roberts trade

March 28, 2008  09:28 AM ET

in fact if you want roberst why not trade DeRosa and marquis straight up? pitching and a durable defensive versatile 2nd baseman...i mean if you bring in roberst theres no place for derosa anywhere....maybe short...but who wants him there???

March 28, 2008  09:54 AM ET

The Cubbies, hearing the Orioles have killed the Roberts trade talk, have complained they were never given a chance !!!

I think the cUbs would make that trade in a second. The fact is they want young guys, but never seemed to figure out which ones they wanted. That sounds like Andy McPhail - probably on a yacht somewhere. he's more of a part-time GM these days

March 28, 2008  10:59 AM ET

If the Cubs aren't getting Roberts, then go get Felipe Lopez from the Nats...Or stop pisssing off Mark DeRosa and give him back his job.

March 28, 2008  12:50 PM ET

the rumor is dead.............please stop posting it...........same with Wes Helms.....aaaaaargggggh!!!!!

That's too bad, so sad for the Cubbies, because they really need Roberts at the top of their line-up. The Brewers are better top to bottom, and the Reds are gaining. Cubs won't make the playoffs.

Grossedout, you're so dumb you'd have to study just to be stupid.
