Grizzlies could draft point guard

The Grizzlies are going to have a high pick, and if they get No. 1 or 2, you can be sure they'll take Memphis' Derrick Rose. That would make rookie point guard Mike Conley, last year's No. 4 overall pick, available. I'm sure the Grizzlies would take a Bulls lottery pick for Conley. Fellow point guard Kyle Lowery also figures to be available.

memphis needs to take beasley they got guards already if they develop javaris..it would make them an uber athletic team with javaris, warrick, Gay and beasley

My first question is, what does "uber" mean? Anyways, if they draft another PG in the draft, that would be a step back. Don't they already have Juan Carlos Navaro? And I thought Conley was the PG of the future. It's been one year. How can they already say he's not gonna work out?

The Grizzlies don't need another guard. They have a a whole bunch of young and talented guards. 3 pgs Conley, Lowry and Crittenton. And with Navarro, Miller and Gay 3 players that can play the sg position. If they get the Nr 1 pick, they would be stupid not to take Beasley.

Uber means comes from the German language. It is a cognate of both Latin super and Greek ???????? (hyper), as well as English over (as in "overkill"). During the 2000s, ??ber also became known as a synonym for super due to gamers excessively using the word incorrectly; e.g. ??ber-bright = "super bright," generally with a slightly intensified meaning. ??ber is commonly written as uber in English, though with slightly different meaning. Often, competitive players of the video game series, Pok??mon, refer to certain Pok??mon as uber. This usually means that it is exceedingly powerful, and banned in normal competitive play. Examples of such Pokemon are Mewtwo, Rayquaza and Arceus.

Actually I had never herd of the word before today

when did Matt Millen start working for the Grizzlies?

March 28, 2008  11:10 AM ET

The real reason they'd take Derrick Rose is because of the local connection. He plays for the rather successful U of M team, so he's well-known locally. They're probably hoping that would translate into ticket sales. They're wrong of course, because winning games is what leads to ticket sales...

Mempho above is right. The Grizzlies are completely wrong, but they believe Rose would give them a more financially robust franchise. Winning--especially if you're in a small market--is what drives revenue. Beasley is good entertainment and would contribute to the wins-column more than Rose would, as he better suits their needs.

I am sorry but I can't help but laugh when I see Rudy Gay's jersey, funny how such a good players jersey can be so unpopular.

Anyway, I like the Grlzzlies. They are not like the Heat and the Knicks tanking the season. They are actually putting a legitimate effort in winning games even without Pau Gasol. I am just wondering how many more seasons do the Grizzlies have to face coming at the bottom of the conference every year.

How about the Blazers give their #14 pick and Raef Lafrentz's contract that expires after the '09 season for Conley. Then we could have our original plan of Oden and Conley playing together. Conley, Roy, Outlaw, Aldridge and Oden. I think they could go deep in the playoffs as soon as next year. Go Blazers.

nice work, chuckbhuge. i like it for both teams, and to see oden and conley together would be a fans delight....

Grizz need good inside players. Not changing of the guard again.

March 28, 2008  08:20 PM ET

trade conley to the blazers so him and Oden can play together.

March 29, 2008  03:38 AM ET

I would like to see him with the Bull it that deal can happen

March 29, 2008  11:35 AM ET

The griz should have taken Conley last year. Not that Conley won't be a very good PG, but they already had Lowry and DS plus a beat on JCN. With other talent on the board, they chose to overstock point guard. With new managment last year, they were dumb enough to draft to the one area where they were deep. Let's see if they learned anything from this.

Obviously the 1st sentence was supposed to say "should not"....
