Steinbrenner denies Yanks sale

Posted: Friday March 28, 2008 08:24AM ET

Despite rumors to the contrary, Hal Steinbrenner reiterated his stance that he and his brother, Hank, won't be looking to sell the Yankees any time soon. "That's the plan," Hal Steinbrenner said. "There are no plans to sell, though I know there's been speculation. This has been in our family a long time - longer than we've been in Tampa, even. That's not going to change."

I think it would be easier if every day, Fannation just posted this headline:

"Yankees Either Do or Don't Do Something of Consequence"

That would just about cover things, no?

Report Offensive Comment

It would be a shame to see the Yankees leave the Steinbrenner family.

Even as a Red Sox fan, I wish nothing but good things for the Yankees. It is the best rivalry in all of sports!!

Report Offensive Comment

Borrrrring.

This, now, is more entertaining and a little surprising. Where are you BobBoston? :))

From the same Daily News is this from Hankie regarding Canseco's thinly veiled accusation of his $275 million dollar man:

"In this age of drug paranoia anybody is going to say that anybody that hits the ball over the fence is doing 'roids .... that's the problem."
"If Mickey Mantle was playing today, if (Willie) Mays, (Babe) Ruth, or (Hank) Aaron were playing today, everyone would be saying that they were doing drugs. But they didn't. In fact, a couple of them - Mantle and Ruth - lived on alcohol. They didn't train or work out, yet they were hitting 550-foot home runs. There is such a thing as a natural, and Alex is a natural. It's that simple."

Wow! an appearance by RSB & Jr in the same day.

4192jc,

I'm at home with the flu so I have some time to chat today!!

The Yankees need to get 50 to 60 wins out of there young pitching. There is no doubt the line-up from top to bottom is outstanding. The Yankees problem is going to be pitching.

Wang
Pettite
Mussina???
And then a lot of unproven talent. Good luck!!

Satan hasn't come up with the highest offer yet, but when he does...

Keeping the Yankees within the Steinbrenner family is great news...if you are a Yankee fan! Hank and Hal appear to be the perfect partnership. Hank is brash...and a little idiotic at times, and Hal is the calming influence. Having Brian Cashman there to guide them is the icing on the cake.

I love it when Hank opens his mouth and bashes Papelbon and the Red Sox, especially when they respond. Let the Sox spend all their energy on Hank. That means there is less on the field.

4192jc - 50 to 60 wins out of the young pitchers is impossible, especially when Joba is starting in the pen. If all stays healthy and with that lineup, there is no reason why Hughes and Kennedy each can't win 15 games. Look for Jeffrey Marquez or Alan Horne to come up mid season and make an impact. The Yankees will not go out and find a starter via trade, but will keep bringing guys up from the system.

The bullpen will be so good early on that by mid-season, the plan to make Joba a starter will be shelved.

Welcome back, JR. :D & sorry to hear about the y ou & the flu, ugh.....

Check that 4192jc - my 50-60 wins comment above was for JFK, Jr.

Report Offensive Comment

thejobarules,

15 wins for Kennedy, (no relation) and Hughes is a tall order.

Moose is just about done and Pettitte is not the pitcher he once was. They NEED the young guys to perform and perform in a big way!!

The Yankees are going to need that strong bullpen!! The starters are going to get roughed up!

Report Offensive Comment

Very true Jr. It's going to be a tall order to see Hughes and/or Kennedy get 15 wins, but should make for an interesting season however it goes. Glad to see they arent the Yanks of old who would have given them both away plus cash for a shot at 45+ has been.

Poor Hankie S. the PRESSURE of competing with the Red Sox Nation must be getting to him. I hear Al Davis is looking to buy a baseball team.

So lets take a poll here. And I desperately ask for Yankee fans to be unbiased as well as the Sox fans. I, in turn, agree to be unbiased in my answer as well.

Question:
Looking at the four expected dominant teams in the AL (sorry, no teams coming from the west) Detroit, Cleveland, New York and Boston. Who has, (and mind you we have to go by what we see at this point, not what may or may not materialize) who has the most dominant and likely winningest pitching staff of the four. Actually, rank them from 1-4. And I'm only going to go with Starters, lets not involve bullpen.

Here is my take

Boston
New York
Cleveland
Detroit

Report Offensive Comment

Detroit's pitching staff is a joke after Verlander. Dontrelle Willis gave up 5 runs in the 1st inn. to the Pirates this week, and his spring ERA is in the double-digits. Welcome to the AL, Dontrelle! I can't wait to see him pitch in US Cellular Field...

That said, I think that the Yanks should get some decent production out of Hughes at least, though Kennedy is a worry, but I think that 25 wins between them is reasonable with that line-up.

I hope Mark Cuban buys the Yanks, since he is the only other person who would keep the payroll up over $200 million. I admit that as a Soz fan, I am afraid of C.C. Sabathia being on the Yankees next year, and I can only hope that he eats himself out of baseball.

Report Offensive Comment

Close Tribe, but i'd switch Cleveland and New York because I don't think Mussina gets more than 12 or 13 W's and Pettitte more than 15, which puts pressure on the young guns. They'll be good, but still have some growing to do. And a lot of this may mean little by the playoffs if the potent Detroit offense is capable of what they should be. Boston to the end though. ALL the way to the end.

Report Offensive Comment

So how do you rank them then SCubel Moragan? And don't fret about CC being in pinstripes next year cuz it won't happen but regardless he pitches for the Indians which means you face him anyway so what difference does it make what uniform he's wearing?

Report Offensive Comment

Well, I'm a little ashamed to say this but I don't think Cleveland will get as much production out of Carmona and Byrd this year which is why I gave NY the nod. Because if they don't produce then you are only looking at CC carrying the load with a supporting cast of 4 or 5 others. Where as with the maturity of the Yankees older guys you still have 2 that will get you 15-18 wins.

I'd also switch Cleveland and NY
