Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo left the club yesterday morning to be with his pregnant wife in Florida. Team officials said Luongo was expected to rejoin the club in time for tonight's game against the Minnesota Wild at the Xcel Energy Center.

I know it's tough for Canucks fans to swallow, but he has every right to be present during his son's birth. How many kids to the average family have (outside of some NFL and NBA players) ? Bottom line is these guys (although richer) are guys like you and me that love their families and want to experience something like this.

Report Offensive Commentc'mon, bgm - he meant b-ball players and football players in general. Its just coincidence that all the examples (Shawn Kemp, Travis Henry, etc.) happen to be black...
In terms of Lu's absence: I find myself torn here. While I have great respect for the miracle of birth and all, and for committed parents, I am a little leery of a team's MVP walking away from a team in the middle of a playoff race. Especially one that makes $7 million a year to be there for them. I haven't heard the 'nucks complain about it, and doubt I will, but something tells me they'll be encouraging him to knock her up at a more convenient time next time, haha. Like I say, I'm not opposed to it, at all, but the timing could cost this team a shot at the playoffs. Its tough. I don't hold it against Luongo at all, but its a real tough spot to leave your team

Report Offensive Commentapparently he had a little girl and will be with the team for the game against the Wild - news from thehockeynews.com - so I guess this is all moot
goCanada! is a happy man! | 03/28/08, 03:41 PM
Report Offensive Commentit really is moot because he doesn't play well against the Wild any way, they probly had a better chance with out him to night.

Report Offensive CommentThanks GoCanada for picking up the reference... no racism, just a shot at some , not all in those sports who house a small day care at home by several wives... just haven't found any in hockey yet is all....Kemp and Henry are the best examples.

Report Offensive CommentThanks joec. Not to be an ace hole, but why do you pretend to care how many kids athletes have anyway?I caertainly dont In the grand scheme of things, does it really matter to you?
bostongm | 03/28/08, 07:19 PM
Report Offensive CommentI certainly dont.In the grand scheme of things, does it really matter to you?(It feels like i'm typing with 15 fingers sometime.Excuse the bad spelling and the broken english).

Report Offensive CommentImplying that he has an obligation to the team over the birth of his own child simply because he's their MVP or getting paid is just the worst form of stupidity. Sports fans in general are the worst judges of human character and are blinded by their own quest for some attachment to glory that they forget that every play, good or bad still has needs, desires and feelings. Your job doesn't own you, so why should his? Hell, even federal prisons let inmates out to see their families once in a while. Good grief.

Report Offensive CommentBoston,
I just expect some athlete's to have some sense of reality and little decency... not knock up every girl they rub against. I would hope most agree that some of these guys who have X-number of kids out of marriage don't get an easy pass, like you appear to grant.
Now, save yourself the ink-space, because I am not beginning an endless morality-in-sports debate with you, as you appear starved for.... just my opinion, go get a sandwich or something and cool down.

Report Offensive Commentteams understand more then you think about players and their families. If a player knows he should be there he will be. How can anyone do their job right( in his case being a player) and still being at the top of his game. he can`t if anyone hever had a child and had had presser jobs would understand. Just this one game. Don`t kill him over it gesh
