Ford wearing out Raptors welcome
Posted: Friday March 28, 2008 08:32AM ET
The past six weeks spent slouching and sneering through a stint as Jose Calderon's backup haven't done much for T.J. Ford's stock as a team-first No.1. Far more grave, Ford's season of scary spinal-related injuries has made it impossible for the Raptors to ponder parting with Calderon, who, at age 26, continues to shore up his all-star-worthy skill set.

This guy has had a rough year, and has worked really hard to come back from a scary injury. I think he feels he deserves a chance to get his starting job back. However, people haven't warmed up to him because he was traded for Charlie Vilenueva (not sure about the spelling) who was very popular in Toronto, so anything negative about him is magnified.

Report Offensive CommentWith Calderon a RFA at the end of this year, he will be definitely getting a pay raise. Add to that T.J's injury & sulking problems, and he could very well be dealt in the off-season. Colangelo has been collecting enough expiring contracts over the last few years to make a big deal happen, and T.J could very well be a major piece in that big deal.

Report Offensive CommentTJ doesn't fit with the Raptors' dynamic, which is a team-first mentality. This guy's turning into another Mike James - shoot first, then shoot some more. Plus Calderon's a way better PG - more dimes, more efficient, more clutch. Not to mention the fact that this dude's the ultimate team player. If Colangelo's smart he'll ship TJ while he's still got some value.

Report Offensive CommentI agree, I've watched a couple of Raptors games this year, and he seems to just want to score. I forget what game it was, but in the 4th QTR no one other than Ford took a shoot untill about 6 or 7 mins left.

Report Offensive CommentFord has shown his true colours this season. After playing the "teamguy" last season and sharing lots of time with Jose Calderon, he came back after his injury to give up his starter's role as Calderon has continued to elevate his game. Ford's body language has been terrible and he has become a first-rate "jacker". Toronto should definitely promote Jose next season to starter and shop T.J . The only potential snag is that Ford is best buds with Chris Bosh, so the issue has to be handled very smartly.

True enough. But the Celtics need another playmaker next year along with Rondo. Only my opinion.

Report Offensive CommentFord has got to go. Considering the arrival of Uros Slokar (or whatever his name is) for next season, the Raptors will have two PGs, one of the being the senior starter (Jose) and one of them who will learn all the good things from the started (Uros). While they are at it, they should also considering shopping the lackluster Bargnani for someone more interactive. Or at least bench him until he shows that he can perform. With all that in place, what is going to happend to Smitch?

Report Offensive CommentCalderon should have been an All-Star. Ford will have to accept that he isn't going to be the #1 guy anymore. The team can't afford the gamble on his health.

Report Offensive CommentFord started & didn't even mention Jose post-game.
It was Jose's idea to start TJ.
Ford will make for good trade bait this summer... let Jose play more, let the Raps find more guys for the paint.

Report Offensive CommentWhen Al Horford gave T J a flagrant foul a few months ago it knocked out TJ Ford's ability 2 do what he was good @.
he might need 2 get hit in his head again for his NBA skills 2 return.

Report Offensive CommentHe has proved to be a pretty good backup, I mean last season he averaged 7.9 APG (he has less this year because of reduced minutes). Now he is averaging 11.8 PPG, 5.8 APG, 2.2 RPG, and 1 SPG in 22.6 minutes.
