Sundin mysterious on future
Posted: Saturday March 29, 2008 09:41AM ET
Asked yesterday if he would consider playing for another NHL team next season, Mats Sundin did not say "yes." But, interestingly, he did not completely reject the notion either, adding even more intrigue to the speculation of what the captain might do over the summer.

Why are we even talking about the Leafs? Let's concentrate on the teams that are in the playoffs. BTW, they are going to dimt he lights at the ACC for and hour during their games vs. the Habs on Saturday night. I guess they have to do something to gain an advantage. Maybe they should dress up like ninjas so that the Canadiens' players won't be able to see them.

Report Offensive CommentI am a Leaf fan, and I agree with Pop totally. First off, the Leafs are horrible, and don't deserve all the print they get. Next, the Sundin saga will play out all summer, why even print this now?

Report Offensive CommentLooks like he's laughing his ace off because he got the ref to pull his finger and let out a deadly fart. The Leafs' last desperate ploy at a play-off spot.Sadly,he just sh--at himself.

Popking>They are dimming the lights at the ACC in the stands only as the fans have requested they not been seen there.
joeC> I agree, look at last year. Sundin will drag this out right to the last minute. Personally I hope he takes his hard boiled "egg" and either retires or goes elsewhere. I think that 6 million could be much better spent re-building and it's curious that Mr. Blue & White forever is not ruling out playing for another team next year. Too bad his scrambled egg thinking didn't make him wake up and smell the coffee at the trade deadline. Did you read his quote? He said he had "fun" this year in Toronto. FUN?
I'm glad that soft boiled thinking egghead did. Pretty sure nobody else is feeling very over zealous. Love the front page cover photo today. In fact, I think I'll use it for my pic today.

I like your take on why they're dimming the lights (LOL). However, why stop at the stands?

Report Offensive CommentPopKing> Because its a well known fact that it takes a great amount of skill to be a Ninja...something sadly lacking on the Leafs. So better to see them go through the pain everyone else has been feeling for months...now that they too have to face the fact that they are just plain terrible. The Habs I hope will kick the crap out of them. Something I was hoping other teams should have done right after the trade deadline. Now they have missed the playoffs and guess what...mangaged to end up 6th from the bottom! The lottery stops at 5!
Losers all the way around. Thanks for nothing EGG!!!

Report Offensive CommentYou know...the more I think about it...with a large part of the type of "culture" in Toronto, and the fact at his age and marital status etc..I'm pretty convinced that the only reason he really does not want to leave the City is because he enjoys being near the bottom and does not want to leave someTorontonian's behind.

Report Offensive CommentYeah. If Sundin loved his team so much he couldve waived his NTC to go to a contender AND then come back next year.It would have been a win-win situation. Why he chose to stay remains a mystery.
bostongm | 03/29/08, 03:50 PM
Report Offensive CommentExactly Boston... that is what infuriated me. He was being asked to go somewhere for a grand total of three months. Not a year, not even a half season. I heard that the Leafs had a deal with the Habs worked out :
Sundin for either Higgins or Grabovski + 1st and 2nd rounder this year.
Sundin nixed it.
If I am the incoming GM, I say see you and thanks for the memories, but since you couldn't do us the favour last season by accepting a three month trade, go elsewhere.

Please note that I wrote "dress" like ninjas. Nothing was mentioned about acting like ninjas.
PopKing | 03/30/08, 01:41 AM
Report Offensive CommentPopKing- Duly noted- Yeah, I certainly agree they could dress like them. They are quite adept really, at dressing up to look like something, that they are not.
Baun-ded | 03/30/08, 06:46 AM
Report Offensive CommentJoec-I heard that too and what made it worse is that decision created a ripple effect with the rest of the NTC crowd to nix any potential deals also.

As a Habs fan, I can honestly say that if your claim is correct (and I heard about Higgins also), then sometimes the best trades are the ones you don't make. Montreal can take a run at him after July 1st and not lose anything.

Report Offensive CommentSundin go to the Habs in the off-season?Hahahahahahahaha.Sundin would be murdered on his 1st trip to the Air Canada Center if he did that. That would be the ultimate finger to the Leafs' organization if he did that.

If the Habs aren't on the hook for his salary if someting "terrible" did happen to him on a trip to Toronto, it sounds like a win-win to me. (cue Vincent Price laughter)
PopKing | 03/30/08, 06:17 PM
Report Offensive CommentHe's just trying to ensure that he doesn't get lowballed by the classless Leafs this off-season. He made it clear at the deadline that he only wanted to play for the Leafs, which opens the door for them to force him to take a hometown discount. So, by opening the door to a couple more teams, Sundin re-opens the possibility of a bidding war/makes the Leafs give him an offer more inline with what he could earn on the open market than he would have received had the Leafs been the only team he is interested in playing for. Its about money, even if he DOES take less than he would if he went elsewhere. Him saying he had fun this year is awful...
