Jones rules out drafting McFadden
Jerry Jones has ruled out making a trade that would position the Cowboys to select Arkansas running back Darren McFadden with one of the first five picks in the draft, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I have no intent at all of moving into the top five," the newspaper quoted Jones as saying. Jones says his reluctance to make such a move is financially based. "A team can get crippled, and I mean seriously crippled, from a financial standpoint by being up there in the top five or six," Jones said. "It's a real negative."

Sure he doews...wink wink.
Just like Don Nelson used to say "This time of year you know I'm lying when my lips are moving"
Jerry might be sincere. But that doesn't mean he won't change his mind.

"JERRY JONES; POSTER BOY FOR THRIFT"
Seriously, Jerry's blowing smoke to try and minimize the price of trading up.
OR
Jerry's decided Mendenhall from Illinois is a better pick and will be available later.

TO turns 35 this year, Glen will be 34 when the season begins. Barber is in his prime. They have bigger concerns than a compliment to Barber.

The Cowboys can take Felix Jones later on in Round #1.

He does not fit for the cowpiles. He is not a women beater or a stoner nor use dogs to kill other dogs. Vick is out so why not get him. He fits in.

I think he's telling the truth, but notice he said top five or six, if DMac falls to..say...7, that might be a different story.

50yearfan,
Good points! One thought though. Draft analysts often point out that the first round is bad spot to draft WR's. Their reasoning is that typically WR's excel in college due to superior athleticism. When they get to the NFL, their athleticism is now average and not superior compared to the competition. Until they learn to run disciplined routes, complicated offensive schemes, etc, they have a steep learning curve which many don't overcome. So the consensus is that if you drafted a WR in the 1st round, you probably paid too much. Especially since there are some real values in the middle rounds. Look at the Packers the last couple of years. For many, the same reasoning exists for RB's.
Having said all that, I still think Jerry trades up to take McFadden.
He never met a star he didn't like; i.e. T.O. and Deion Sanders.
In the meantime, this is just a big game of "Liar's Poker"!!!

I also agree that he may go after Mendenhall instead, which i think is a better move. A trade has been mentioned on the Panthers site which states a possible scenerio that could go down on draft day. Heres the link: http://www.catscratchreader.com/tag/trade%20down

It's all smoke and mirrors until mid-April. Although there is truth in what Jones is saying about a top 5 pick ruining your team. Not only financially, but hold outs never help a team either.

They have 2 first rounders...it's not a big deal if they grab an RB in the first round...they can grab a WR in the first and a CB later.

sacked92,
What will they need a CB for if they're going to trade for Pacman??

McFadden is great but they got Barber. They should hold their two first round picks and use one of them to get Felix Jones.

Why would he? The running backs in this draft are amazing. He might as well wait until the second day. He could still get a future Pro Bowler.

Arrested for what? Pacman has seen the light. It was a spotlight pointed at the pole the strippers use.

pwings ..The WR thought is valid. But I am not sure it applies to 22 and 28 pics. Not sure there are 31 first round value players in this draft. If I were the Cowboys, I would try to trade the 28 pic for extra pics in rounds 2/3. It is not about money though. Jones will eventually pay 5 pic money for Pacman ( he is not going to play for chump change for anybody, his agent has made that clear) if the deal goes through and big bucks for a receiver in trade or FA next year.
I would rather have 2 twos and 2 threes in this draft anyways if I did not have a top 15 pic.

If Pacman is smart he takes whatever he can get. Then go out and play well and if he keeps his nose clean for an entire season he will get a huge deal next offseason.
