Jays at stalemate with Rios
Negotiations between Alex Rios and the Blue Jays on a long-term contract are at a stalemate. The Jays have offered a six-year deal worth $65 million. "The deal is there," general manager J.P. Ricciardi said. "It's up to them." If the contract is not agreed to by Monday's first game, Ricciardi says it will go on the backburner until the end of the year.

6 yr for 65 mill? that's only around 10.8 milion a year. he shows promise and could probably push that number to 85 mill + with a good season.

Absolutely correct - BUT - what do you think the Jays will do if in August they aren't in the playoff hunt - trade him to a team where he doesn't have any say. I say , if I'm Rios, wait it out for at least another year.

- huh?
why would he have any more or less say?
He doesn;t want to sign a 6 yr deal for that little amount of $ because that will be the last (big) contract he gets....11 mil per- NOW- is below avg for a regular above avg outfielder.....when that contract hits the 4th -5th year, he will be GROSSLY underpaid

I would definitely wait. jpg is right, he wants to get to the point where he can really cash in on all of his potential. He should continue to improve his power numbers, meaning even if he has to wait another year or two, he should get a bigger payout for all of his talent. Plus, if he is traded he will finally get an opportunity to play on a good team, which most players are looking for.
