Bennett, Dixon linked to Cal job

Washington State coach Tony Bennett is expecting to leave the Cougars and is one of the two candidates who have emerged as frontrunners for the Cal vacancy, according to sources close to the Washington State and Cal programs. Mike Dunlap, a Denver Nuggets assistant coach, is the other candidate, according to a source familiar with Cal's search. If, as sources indicate, Bennett does not return to Pullman, his next move wouldn't necessarily be Cal. He might also be a candidate for the open Indiana job, among others. According to ESPN, Pitt coach Jamie Dixon turned down a Cal offer for the job.

Obviously the Indiana job has to be the most appealling job for coaches out there. The history and prestige of that program never seems to scare people away like it should.

Why do people think anyone wants the IU job and now the Cal job. The media here are talking about Tom Izzo as the next IU head coach, and why would Tony Bennett leave Washington State for Cal???

hey IrishR#1 -- with a substantial new coach's salary, the San Francisco Bay Area would be an incomparably better place to live than Pullman -- and Cal is a major university, unlike WashSt ... go Bears!

why would he leave a program he's already building up well to a program that just finished 9th in the pac 10? he's already been at the bottom and now has the foundation to continue on his progress, why go back and try to do it again?

as for indiana, they're just a typical big program blowing smoke because they think that anyone in the world wants to come and coach for them.

My guess is that Bennett gets and prefers the Indiana job, since he and his father have long midwestern roots, than the Cal job. This guy, like his father, is a good coach.

Cal has the talent base -- it just needs a coach -- Hardin, Christopher & Anderson can play with anyone -- they would have beaten UCLA except for the refs. Go Bears!

CNNSI got the wrong Bennett, Cal wants RANDY Bennett from St Mary's. And why would Tony go from a great situation that he loves to a program about to lose all of its talent, already lost all of its recruits and is going on probation?
