Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti has been speaking to other clubs about possible trades, targeting players with short and inexpensive contracts for what they expect to be short-term replacement duty. They are believed to be interested in Philadelphia's Wes Helms. Tampa Bay's Eric Hinske is also reportedly on the market.

If you're Helms, you're just hoping to play somewhere.

If the Phillies don't get a pitching prospect for Helms then what a waste! But then I am talking about the Phillies.

Yuck.

I hope this deal fall short.

Barry Bonds can play third base and he loves the West Coast.

Marc. H not necessarily.

I'm not crazy about wes helms either, but the season starts tomorrow and they need a third baseman. I had heard that Torre was going to give Blake DeWitt a shot at it. He play fantastic in spring.

Wow, possible trades involving Helms and Hinske...the balance of power will surely shift in the NL! In other breaking news, the grass is growing in my backyard...stay tuned.

March 30, 2008  07:16 PM ET

I don't even think anyone in either the Helms or Hinske household gives a damn about this.

March 30, 2008  07:49 PM ET

why is there a picture of jayson werth? Also wes helms should bounce back from a shaky season last year. But no matter, because we have no room for him in philly. Get what you can and ship him off.

Nothing against Wes Helms, but he hasn't performed and we've got Dobbs to paltoon at third. I agree with trying to get a pitching prospect, but that may be wishful thinking as Wes really isn't that desirable.
