If you're a contender that needs a player at one of those positions, it's news. The Pirates' front office is saying, "Make us an offer." Bay would be a good fit in Cleveland or San Diego, Nady should go to the Mets, Marte would be a nice pickup for the Reds or Brewers (or most any other team), Morris could fit right in with the Astros or Rangers, and Wilson makes the Cubs infield a little better if Theriot moves to second.

The Padres need Bay the most. The Padres outfield is way to old and injury prone. An impact bat has been missing for some time.

Are the pirates crazy????? They are giving away two of their best players!!!!! I would have tem as coming out as 3rd in their division, but I will probably but them in last!!!!

Wilson has a HUGE salary that we nor any other team can afford. If ANYone will offer us a trade for Jack, its done.

Bay just doesnt try anymore. Bats below .250 and K's more times than he hits.

Nady- Sad to see him go. He gave it his all every time.

Morris- Why did we trade our best prospect in Rajai Davis for him just to get rid of him for a worse prospect?

perhaps i am being impartial but cleveland is the best spot for bay. he and sizemore played together. they had a deal before the season for cliff lee.
i can't see nady going to the mets again. he would be a good fit for the nationals.

The "blueprint" article in today's PG is very good. For the first time since Syd Thrift left, they have a viable plan. Wonder if the new management team can execute?

I have many concerns for my Padres as we get closer to opening-day, but I can't imagine what it feels like to be a Pirate fan at this moment. And maddog7493, you're kidding right?

I would hate to see Marte and Nady go. Wilson is a great infielder, but he is payed too much. I would love to see Bay go for anything we can get. Should have done everything we could to trade him to the Indians. Finally, like EF said, picking up Morris for Davis was the dumbest move we ever made.

EastCoastKeith, look at the Pirates' roster. They really do have a decent rotation. Snell and Gorzellany would make anybody's staff, Duke and Maholm are not bad 3-4 guys, and Morris has been a quality pitcher on several Cardinals' playoff teams. One big hitter (Bay, if he'd quit whining and play like he can) and they could sneak into the Central race. They're certainly better than the Cardinals and Astros, if they have any hitting at all.

The Pirates are easily among the top 3 worst teams in baseball. There is no way they will "sneak" into the two horse race that is the central.

Bay's knees have been hurting the last 2 years. One bad knee contributed to the other getting hurt...or so he says. Now they are both pain free.
If you don't have your legs then your not going to hit. I think it would be a bit premature for the Pirates to trade Bay(early on). If he starts off the season well and continues to do so, the Pirates would be able to get more in return.

The Pirates minor league system is almost void of any major league talent. They have 2 good players(position players) under the age of 22 in their system. After that, it's pretty much next to nothing.

THey must been tired of working for Primanti Bros. sandwiches and Iron City Beer. They asked for real money and real contracts now.
Typical Pirates Management, bring back the old days when they werent the AAA of MLB.

This is exactly what is wrong with pro baseball. They need a hard cap. No one can say that cities like Pittsburgh. Milwaukee, Kansas City etc... will ever win again because the odds are stacked too heavily against them. Yes, owners have money to spend and choose not to, but the fact remains if there was an even playing field concerning salaries, small market teams could retain star players and chase championships, instead of praying that there minor system produces many big time players. I am a Yankee fan, and even I recognize the absurdity that allows New York to spend over 200 million dollars on payroll alone, and millions upon millions more in drafting, scouting and developing.

im 38 and have been a pirate fan for as long as i can remember and im sick of losing good players,ownership needs to start spending money to get and keep good players.... we need pitching leave line up alone and spend some money on decent pitchers. one comment i read was bay's not trying,kind of discouriging when your always in last place...

I feel the Pirates are going to give it a go in the weak NL Central. If it doesn't work and they find themselves out of contention, then they should make some moves. It would be nice to move Bay now, ONLY because he has some time left on his contract and the Pirates wouldn't be forced to accept less than market value for him (keep in mind he must raise his market value...he played last year hurt). Nady would be huge for any contender that needs an OF that can play multiple positions and supply you with a solid bat off the bench...I just think he breaks down when he's playing every day. Marte is the one I'd hate to lose most. A solid LH out of the pen. This man was lights-out last year and threw well this spring again. Anyone needing bullpen help will after him come "fire-sale" time. Morris and Wilson: try to get some prospects (AA or A players) and hope they pan out.

All in all, I'd love to see the Pirates give it everything this year. The division is weak and they may have a shot (the Cubs are really strong - they'd have to fail miserably for the Buccos to take the division).

I still think that, more than trades, this next amateur draft will tell Pittsburgh what management is thinking. Moskos over Weiters...due to $$$? That is a losing mentality. Nutting had best open the man-purse and give Huntington some money to work with!
