McFadden to visit Patriots

The Patriots have considerable talent and depth at running back, yet that isn't stopping team officials from flying Darren McFadden up to Foxborough for a visit. NFL teams are allowed to host up to 30 out-of-town prospects before the draft, and the Patriots' visit with the Arkansas back - scheduled for April 10-11 - should generate buzz relating to New England having the seventh overall draft choice. Is there genuine interest in McFadden? Might it be a smoke screen? Or is it just due diligence as part of the scouting process?

Hummm...McFadden and Brady.....Hummm...Malroney and McFadden...hummm....

Sounds lovely....hummm...Celtics win #17, Patriots #4 and Red Sox # 8....Hummm...

None of the above will happen......Hummm....

McFadden is not dropping to #7

March 31, 2008  08:44 AM ET

They dont need McFadden. Miami could use him though.. Im betting if they keep that pick, one of the Long's goes first

March 31, 2008  10:16 AM ET

Miami has far greater needs than RB, especially since Ronnie Brown was doing so well before going down. Investing a first overall pick on a RB when you have one already is a waste, especially when they have so many other needs.

I agree a Long is going #1 overall.

McFadden would be a good fit with the Patriots. Their winning tradition straightened Moss out and they have the right combination of youth and age to turn McFadden around. (This was the kind of environment the Raiders of old used to provide.)

wouldnt surprise me if the Longs go one and two

McFadden's 'lack of character' [see other T&R] would make him a perfect Patriot -- he could probably learn a few new cheats from the coaching staff -- and a few 'hound dog' tricks from GoldenBoyBrady

your schtick is getting old and boring.
Come up with new material ok ?

March 31, 2008  11:38 AM ET

This is a smoke screen. The Pats don't want to pay that kind of money to an offensive player especially when they already got a pretty good RB group and very good overall offense. This is just their way of trying to get someone interested in trading with them to take McFadden at number 7.

March 31, 2008  11:46 AM ET

They'd have to trade with the Raiders to get him.

March 31, 2008  12:01 PM ET

As much as it would be great to see McFadden in Boston next year, no way he falls to #7, even with character issues. He'll be a superstar, unless the Jets draft him at #6, then he will be a dud and out of football in 5 years.

March 31, 2008  12:04 PM ET

so sorry, KPKaher -- stories about McFadden's character -- or lack thereof -- and stories about the Pats with their predictable aftermath in T&R -- are 'old and boring' as well -- but then again, the truth is often 'old and boring' just like values and morals because they should be unchanging -- old guys like me hate it when the punks win and are rewarded.

Thank goodness for Mangina - he won't let McFadden tempt us at NO. 7. "Vernon Gholston he's are man - drafted by the Pats - that's the plan" !!!

March 31, 2008  01:06 PM ET

The "P" in Pittsburgh connotes "Pathetic". Pittsburgh is a minor league town.

March 31, 2008  01:51 PM ET

this is a waste of time we all know the Pats are going to draft a CB or a LB with #7 and plus Mcfadden isn't going to be around at number 7.

March 31, 2008  02:02 PM ET

You forget who's doing the drafting with the Pats. Belichick and Pioli are the best in the NFL in regards to evaluating talent. They'll get their man.

March 31, 2008  02:29 PM ET

i think that will b a good trade

March 31, 2008  03:23 PM ET

The Patriots need to fix that pathetic excuse for a defense first.

OLD slow linebackers that cant cover....Asante is gone... I mean ELLIS "my groin hurts" HOBBS is your #1 cornerback HAHAHA..Richard Seymour cant touch the QB anymore... Rodney Harrison is running out of steroids (and composure to play)..

Dont think your offense can carry you all the way...cuz it didnt this past year...and your D is even worse now.

....After watching the Super Bowl i cant even put Brady in the top 3 QB's in the league... I always had this theory that if he didnt have 7 seconds to throw to a WIDE OPEN receiver, he aint ****... Mannn the Super Bowl just proved my point. He has no athletic skills, no improvisation skills, NOTHING. Just a good arm that usually has all day to throw... nothing special really.

Has ANYONE EVERRRR seen him make a GREAT throw UNDER PRESSURE... ?????

The Pats do not need to get a RB Maroney is a good enough player and focus should be LB and then CB since that are their weakspots. However at LB they have good enough players but they are aging. If we still had Samuel then get younger at LB would be number 1 but we need a shutdown CB. I say trade to Dallas for two picks and trade 1 draft pick to a team for a good number 19 Lito Shepherd anyone) and draft a young LB
