Gibbons okay with O's release

Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail laid it out to owner Peter Angelos in a phone conversation about outfielder Jay Gibbons within the past couple of days. "I gave him the ramifications and what my thinking was," MacPhail said. His advice was, 'You gotta do what you gotta do.' Those were the last words that he left me with, and I took the position of, 'Well, this is what we have to do.' " Needing to set their Opening Day roster by yesterday afternoon, the Orioles released Gibbons, the second-longest-tenured member of the club, and will absorb the $11.9 million left on his contract over the next two years. Reached last night, Gibbons said he harbored no ill feelings toward the Orioles. He thanked Angelos and the organization for "giving me an opportunity to live my dream."

Well, I guess this is proof that steroids and hgh work -- he wouldn't have made close to $30 million without'em. Now at the age of 31, he never has to work another day in his life.

While you are at it, drop Aubrey Huff's lazy caboose.

11.9, uh yeah, no hard feelings...

It's only money and to multi-milliaires money can always be made but great players are hard to come by so thanks and good-bye Jay. For ten years the O's have lacked the ability to put a full team of competative players on the field, but now they are working it out. I screamed every at-bat Jay got becuse I knew it was taking valuable time away from some young potential stud. Nothing personal because he is probably a really nice guy but Scott Moore is 24, hungry, talented and may just develop naturally into a very good player. Great move MacPhail, I love what you are doing.

Lastly, this pitching staff, including those injured and sent to the minors, has the makings of being great. Cabrara is an enigma and he'd better come around to being at least a 500 or 555 pitcher or he too has to go because these young bucks like Liz, Olsen, Loewen, Patton, Penn, Albers and maybe even Burres are knocking at the door. Out of this group we will find two or three gems this year, if they can get and stay healthy.

The Cubbies - hearing of Gibbons' release say they are interested in maybe thinking of possibly talking about the idea of saying they might be interestred in Gibbons. Whew !!!

Released by Baltimore in 2008 - now there's a dream come true.

Correct me if I am wrong, but a baseball contract is solid, so they have to pay him regardless. To go along with EastCoast Keith... and his Baltimore released him statement... Heck yeah, send me packing with my 11 mil.
Downside is will anyone pick him up and absorb that contract or part of it.

reality though, I would play baseball on any team for the league minimum, what am I talking about...

Aubry Huff lazy? you mean the guy who drove in 5 of our 9 runs in game 2. Maybe you would rather we lose. The man gave an outstanding performance even while the no good fans booed him. He is a baseball player that obviously loves the game even if he doesnt like the town. Who could like a fan that boo's their own team? I hope Baez gets the hint and finds a team that does not boo him either. If I were Huff i would leave the first chance I got because the fans of baltimore are pathetic.
