Rodriguez defends family values

The Michigan football family is stronger than ever. That's the message coach Rich Rodriguez had Saturday as his team conducted its seventh practice of the spring in front of friends and family. Less than a week after junior offensive lineman Justin Boren left the team, citing a "lack of family values," Rodriguez and his players came to the program's defense. "I've been a head coach for 15 years," said Rodriguez, who called Boren's allegation ridiculous. "I think we have as close a family unit -- than anybody in the country. Always has been and always will be." Rodriguez noted that his mother-in-law was in attendance Saturday. She has visited to the past three practices despite living seven hours away. Various recruits, parents and former players also crowded the sidelines indoors at Oosterbaan Fieldhouse.

Michigan is in a downward spiral. Let's see how tight this family is in November when they start the month either two and six or three and five with no hope of a bowl game.

Notwithstanding the numbnutz above, ALL programs go through some sort of upheaval when a new coach comes in. Why people think UM is falling apart over ONE player leaving during spring practice is quite disingenuous. We don't the real reason why Boren left but there a theory out there. Kids leave programs. They leave USC, Florida, Alabama, Notre Dame, etc etc. It's just the rage filled UM HATERS that want to spin this as the sky is falling for Michigan.

And sure, the team will most likely struggle this year. What team doesn't when the complete program is reworked to accommodate a totally new offense while trying to find a new QB?

But, I don't ever believe that many of the MORANS on here have much common sense.

"I think we have as close a family unit -- than anybody in the country. Always has been and always will be." Rodriguez noted

Is that not what he said to WV right before leaving...........................

Mr. The Warden............as a U of M alum, it would be nice if those posting on behalf of the Maize and Blue could at least spell MORON correctly.......

March 31, 2008  12:17 PM ET

Rentar....

I spelled it that way on PURPOSE. You must not frequent FARK.COM. I used it to represent the idiots who think they know what's going on with UM football.

if you don't believe me, cut and paste this link to understand

forgot to mention it was popularized by the wonderful picture of a protester holding a sign that has the use of the misspelled word.

Roger that.......I've just seen it too many times on these sites where someone makes a good point only to ruin it by failing to understand the english language.........Go Blue!!

It is not just "one" kid leaving, he is the latest in a line of them beginning with Mallett who was forced out by Rodriquez. Take a look at the offensive line, the top six guys are gone, Two finished their eligibility (Long and Kraus), four up and left, both starting receivers left early and Ryan Mallett was forced off the team by Rodriquez. The reason people think UM is falling apart is because they are. They are going to suffer for several years and Rodriquez is going to get fired before he has a chance to rebuild. Generally, Michigan fans, former players and the university itself feel that winning is a right, not something that is earned. The administration is on full fledge damage control thanks to Rodiguez's actions and the team's historically low academic standards. They will not tolerate losing or the university's name being run through the mud like it did during the Fisher era, and that is what is coming. Take a long look at Nebraska, this is where UM football is headed.

Time for al this Horse Manure to cease! Boren was there and now he is gone. Michigan survived before him and will survive just fine with out him. Time to get serious about getting this team ready for the upcoming "08" season. Just remember what happened in "69" to prompt Bo in erecting the sign "those who stay will become champions". All this speculation on what if, when and how is pointless. Answers will become apparant during and after the season. anyone expecting a huge season best down grade their expectations. This season may be a little painful, lets just hope this is a huge step in the right direction.

March 31, 2008  04:18 PM ET

INSOC, you didn't read what I wrote. Boren is the first to leave during SPRING PRACTICE. Yes, there were a handful of kids who left prior to spring. And again, that's normal in this situation. But this nonsense that you spew is just because you have a disdain for the either UM and/or RR. There is nothing "factual" about what you write other than you enjoy spewing your venom about a school/coach you hate.

you michigan haters think your psyhic if your so smart and can predict the downfall of michigan, than pick my numbers for the mega millions tomorrow will ya? Just stuff your OSU sock down your throat and wait and see this fall.

March 31, 2008  07:44 PM ET

Everyone needs to just wait and see what, if any, effect Rich Rod will have on the team up north. The man hasn't even coached one game yet and people are already giving him a hard time.
Every program goes through a rough period when they replace a long time coach. The question is how long will it last and can the new coach pull the players through it.
While I simply can't stand that team up north, I have a feeling that they will be back to winning games against everyone except the Buckeyes if people will just give Rich Rod a chance. Let's see what he can do on the battlefield before we condemn him.

March 31, 2008  08:54 PM ET

Whodey, you are absolutely right. RR hasn't even coached a game yet. The key will be getting those who played under Carr to buy into his style of coaching and playing (and if they do, it's an easier transition) and for RR and his crew to get the type of players they need to build the type of team to play the way they coach. So far that's happening as RR has landed some burners. RR is about playing fast and getting kids out into space. If RR can accomplish what he's set out to do, watch out cuz it won't be pretty for the other teams, imho. Tressel, being the smart but "crooked" coach that he is, understands what he's up for and wisely made a trip to USF to findo ut what they did to stop RR.

man michigan is in trouble, everyones leaving that program maybe loyd should of stayed one more year WHO KNOWS??

April 1, 2008  11:02 AM ET

Maybe RR can bring in one of his ex players to preach what the family values unity can bring to a team. I think Pacman Jones has a little spare time right now.

April 1, 2008  12:18 PM ET

INSOC you are too funny. Bro it's Michigan who has been competitive for about 40 years. A new coach won't even ruin that momentum.

April 1, 2008  02:06 PM ET

Question, does Michigan even play high school football. Considering they have to recruit Ohio to make them worth a d@mn is kind of ironic for as much shhh they talk about our state. LoL Woodson, Howard, Manningham, Schembechler, etc etc etc, its like our "LITTLE BROTHER" PROGRAM. LOL scUM
