Bennett on LSU's wish list

LSU released a list of six candidates for its athletic director job and could name finalists for the coaching position by midweek. That list could include potential candidates for the Cal job. Washington State coach Tony Bennett, considered a top candidate for the Cal job by a Chronicle source, might be interested in the LSU job because his wife, Laurel, is from Baton Rouge, La. Along with Bennett, Virginia Commonwealth coach Anthony Grant and Southern Illinois coach Chris Lowery have been linked to the LSU job.

He has a good thing at Wazzu. I doubt he would pass up Indiana to take a job at LSU.

he is not going to lsu. if he turned down iu, what make lsu think they can lure bennett?

April 1, 2008  10:30 AM ET

how ridiculous!!!!

April 1, 2008  10:37 AM ET

Nobody thought Les Miles would stay out poor little LSU over the mighty Michigan, and that happend.

Also if his wife is from there, I say there is a good chance he could be on his way as we speak. You'd be suprised what a wife can make a man do.

I love the pic. It's Bennet saying, "Hey LSU, forget it, I'm out!!"

April 1, 2008  01:47 PM ET

why doesn't anyone go for the VCU coach more? he's young, charismatic, a good coach (they did beat duke last year) or even the davidson guy? bennett turned down indiana, who honestly thinks that lsu now has a shot at him?!

I don't know anything about this story, but the picture looks like audition for a gay porn.

April 1, 2008  04:19 PM ET

Nobody will take that job right now. They don't have an AD; it's a football school; their last coach had a lot of success and got the ax. But money talks, if LSU is ready to go that route. When the dust settles, Anthony Grant may just be the guy.

This is the letter O say it with me now OOOOOO

April 1, 2008  04:56 PM ET

He might be auditioning for the next Whopper Commercial

April 1, 2008  05:55 PM ET

I would think he's now on Ok State's radar as well.

Well like I said yesterday, Cougs are more scared of Bennett leaving for LSUthan anywhere else because that is where his wife is from ( I think this story was stollen from my post yesterday ). I don't understand why they list CAL as a potential destination. Bennett already said he would never leave for another pac10 school...

I know for a fact though that Bennett will not leave for LSU... he has strong ethics and morals. He has stated, along with a lot of other coaches, that he is disgusted by the way Cal's Coach and LSU's were randomly fired. I really dont think he would consider going to a school that treats its coaches like that. WSU is has a community sense that noone here can understand... below is a good quote about Bennett from our College newspaper.

"He makes ladies swoon and males envious. Other schools would do just about anything to have Bennett. But Bennett will not leave. Coach Bennett has confessed his love for Pullman many times. He???s established the five pillars of the Cougar program ??? humility, passion, servanthood, utility and thankfulness. To WSU and Pullman, he is a god. Leaving WSU would go against all of the pillars he has established. It would go against the vision he sold his recruits. In short, it would be leaving a job half-finished" ( Rick Scott, The Daily Evergreen).

I like it... Say Bayou to Bennett Wazzu... The wife is gonna give the onions an extra tug or two... And off to LSU they go

April 1, 2008  08:18 PM ET

Well he isn't leaving Washington state and Indiana's hired a new coach so this story is over

April 2, 2008  11:14 AM ET

That picture looks like he's trying to stuff something really "BIG" in his mouth. It's really not faltering unless he's trying to tell the ref that he blows the big one!

April 2, 2008  03:18 PM ET

No, he's about to take a very large bite from an imaginary sub.
