Georgia Tech quarterback signee Jaybo Shaw of Flowery Branch was arrested early Sunday morning on a charge of underage drinking, a misdemeanor. Shaw was the first player to commit to play for Paul Johnson after Tech hired Johnson as coach last December. Shaw ran for 1,500 yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior after throwing for 2,700 yards and 28 touchdowns as a junior. He was No. 10 on Rivals.com's national list of dual-threat quarterbacks, and No. 33 among prospects overall in Georgia.

Underage drinking is wrong, but it's so easy for kids to get alcohol these days that I cannot possibly condemn it.

BAh let them Drink, if I played at G. Tech i would wanna drink too.

underage drinking is wrong -- getting caught is stupid -- does not evidence much 'see the field' ability which is essential for a QB

April 1, 2008  11:37 PM ET

See this is why its time to lower the drinking age to 18 just lie cigarettes then we wouldn't be seeing this problem

Sounds like PSU!!

Maybe he read where many of his offensive weapons are leaving GA Tech and he became depressed. Hopefully coach Johnson can get through this.

April 4, 2008  03:27 PM ET

we're off and running with the Paul Johnson era.... talent defections, arrests..... 3-8 season to follow.....it's really getting ugly fast!

April 8, 2008  06:24 PM ET

Holly cow - he barely stepped foot on the campus and is already getting sloshed. That is absolutely....

...true for about 9o+% of all college students.

Side note - he will take the NCAA suspension and raise them a red shirt.

Next story.

Tech is a miserable school to attend. Crappy, old dorms, long walks to classes, a rigorous lab course and at least 5 hard classes a semsester, almost no hot girls on campus, and concrete and busy streets everywhere you look. And everyone is a nerd. Plus, they have lost to UGA every year since Mark Richt became head coach. They practically have to beg people to buy season tickets. The campus stinks of diesel bus exhaust. Street people have free reign of the campus. No wonder their fight song is replete with references to swearing and hard liqour. The students drink just to kill the pain. The payoff comes when they graduate and start at $60,000/yr.
