A-Rod's messy offseason leftovers

Posted: Wednesday April 02, 2008 05:39AM ET

Alex Rodriguez called his off-season "the greatest opt-out in the history of baseball," but he said it sheepishly, not proudly. Rodriguez used words like "chaotic" and "whacked out" to describe how he went from opting out of his last three years with the Yankees to eventually returning to them. As Rodriguez spoke happily about being "more integrated" with the Yankees than ever before, he acknowledged that there will be some residue that sticks to him because of how messily his situation unfolded. Some of that residue is peeling off. Two people connected with the Yankees said Scott Boras told the team that Detroit was prepared to overwhelm Rodriguez by offering him $40 million a year. The Tigers said that was untrue.

residue is a carefully chosen word. I was thinking more like "caked in"

40 Mil? Boras is an ****. NOBODY is going to give one player 40 Mil.

wow, you can' even say A HOLE. Ok, Boras is butt hole.

A-rod likes to call anything he does "the greatest." However, it would have been scary if he went to Detroit. That line-up is stacked. Glad to have him in pinstripes.

Boras is losing his touch... he's nost used to listenening to clients wants (at least not when its not always $$-first). Teams are no longer afraid to call his bluffs, and players are sick of his antics too...

I think the line-up is about as scary without him. The only thing scarier with the Tigs signing A-Rod would have been the ticket prices.

Good point

Maybe, because Detroit had the money to sign Cabrera.

Wouldn't suprise me to learn that Detroit fished for him a bit. I'm sure A-Rod would hate to chase a home run record in Comerica. I think the Tigers are better off without him.

I might agree, if Cabrera pans out, but Imagine having A-Rod, and those prospects to be able to land some serious pitching help...

The Tigers locker room is pretty tight, even with all of the new guys. Not sure A-Rod would fit in like Cabrera and Renteria have. No argument that his bat would be wlecome, though.

anyone else just absolutely pumped that the MLB season is on?!?

Report Offensive Comment

Yeah-Opening Day should be a recognized holiday. We should get the day off, or get paid double-time.

Report Offensive Comment

The deal for A-Rod died because Brandon Inge threw a fit.

biminator- yeah seriously I woke up today with so much more energy and in a great mood just because I got to watch the Yankees home opener last night. And before the critics come and attack me for being a Yankee fan I was also watching a few other games too since baseball is fun to watch no matter what teams are playing (unless it's the Marlins lol).

bcolt, I had the pleasure of attending last night (after the displeasure of sitting there for three hours on Monday afternoon).

Oh, it's good to be back.

Yankee 64- you lucky sob... you saw a great game. I'm very jealous. And biminator you don't happen to work in billing at a lawfirm do you?
