Booty throws well at Pro Day

Quarterback John David Booty arrived and departed from USC's annual pro day Wednesday wearing the same wide grin. After linebacker Keith Rivers and defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis solidified their status among the top prospects at their positions, and running back Chauncey Washington seemingly sprinted up the draft board, Booty put on a show for dozens of NFL scouts that came to evaluate nearly two dozen draft-eligible players. Booty was particularly impressive completing deep passes, a rarity during his two seasons as the Trojans starter.

I wish Booty luck!! There are a lot of bad QB"s playing pro right now, I hope some one gives him a shot as a starter..

April 3, 2008  08:53 AM ET

he'll get drafted and get groomed by some team. Hopefully he want turn out to be an **** hat like Matt Leinfaart who still thinks he's in college.

April 3, 2008  09:07 AM ET

Better start taking coaching classes Booty.

It pains me to say it, but Leinart was a much better pro prospect than you Booty, and he's not looking like he will make it (what a shocker). Draft Booty, you'll get a QB who will throw more INT's than TD's (see Leinart) and who cant scramble.

Sad that Sanchez was far and away the best QB on FUSC's team last year and he didnt get to play.

April 3, 2008  09:18 AM ET

Now he could be taken in the fifth round instead of the sixth. Booty isn't a pro prospect. He wasn't even that great in college. Palmer and Leinart were much better.

I still can't find anything on Matt Ryan (who I personally think is a good QB). Maybe LSD Dynasty can add something constructive.

April 3, 2008  11:13 AM ET

good thing that Booty's future will be determined by somewhat cold-blooded and relatively objective NFL scouts and personnel rather than by all the USC-haters who populate this site

April 3, 2008  11:37 AM ET

Joe Flacco, Chad Henne, Josh Johnson, and Brian Brohm will be the 4 best QBs from this draft, in that order.

Sour grapes all over the place here. Booty escaped Lousiana - or rather turned traitor, I guess - coming to USC. He played injured last year and got taken out, allowing for Sanchez to come in. Sanchez flat out lost the Oregon game when the rest of the Trojans were playing well enough to win it. Sanchez is NOT the best: Mustain is better. Booty will fit in with some team. He's not a top draft choice, but he will surprise people in the pros. He had a pro attitude in college, poise and a good ethic. I'm not a John David Booty fan per se, but all this cripe about him is overkill.

silverblack-Why will Booty be any good? He has average arm strength and average accuracy. He isn't mobile. He had injury problems last year. His surrounding cast is what made him anything decent. He would be around 8th or 9th on my QB draft board.

Poise under fire, ability to win games and inspire winning among players, good game management: INTANGIBLES are very good for this not spectacular, but workman-lik QB. As I said, a steal in a late round for a ball club. he reminds me a bit of Brady who was anything but spectacular at MICH.

PS Booty had very bad USC receivers to deal with - perhaps the worst in years as a group. And still the team did well, even after the Oregon debacle.

Sour grapes? Booty would have never played at LSU. He made a good decision for himself to go to FUSC. How many games did Booty lose for you? Give Sanchez a full season and you probably have a more successful year last year.

No one is bashing the Trojan Condoms. Just saying Booty wont be a good NFL QB, thats it. Fred Davis will be a great NFL TE, IMO. I hope the Saints can nab him in the second round.

David Booty will probably only see an NFL game if the starter of a team goes out for the season...

April 3, 2008  12:37 PM ET

JDB lost a whole 3 games as a starter... And was 9-0 against Top 25 teams...

He will be fine in the NFL, just like the rest of SC alumni!

Dynasty? 2 1/2 National Champion seasons... And how many Heisman Trophy winners in the last 50 years?... 1... HARDLY A DYNASTY!

Fight On Trojans!

Oh where to begin...

God-awful public state school in the south guy - "FUSC"? Really? At least be original. How is life as an air conditioning repair man working out for you?

The Warden - let's be honest. ML is 24, at 24 would you want to be beer bonging with 20 year olds? He could be doing much, much worse (see Vick, Pacman Jones, Tank Williams, Ray Lewis, Chris Henry...). Truthfully though, only one of those chicks was halfway decent, in that respect I am disappointed in ML, but I guess you can really only go down if your college was ranked the #2 overall for best-looking women...

Isn't that how Brady became the starter in NE?

April 3, 2008  12:52 PM ET

He'll be a good QB to develop in a west coast offense. I think a team like the Seahawks can stick him behind Matt Hasselbeck for a couple of seasons and see what happens.

April 3, 2008  12:52 PM ET

I'm glad that Irish R showed some love for Josh Johnson. He's a project but that kid is going to be a great QB in about 3 or 4 seasons.

Yes, it is. My point was, Booty won't just come in and start for a team. Someone will need to get hurt form him to play.

You really can't be serious about Joe Flacco....I mean come on
