Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson said Wednesday in an interview with ESPN's Brian Kenny he will not sit out the 2008 season. Johnson was reacting to comments made Tuesday by head coach Marvin Lewis at the owner's meetings in Florida. The coach had said the Bengals are "prepared to move on" if the all-star wide receiver decides to sit out the 2008 season. "It's unfortunate that Chad has put himself in that situation, because a lot of people who really had affection for him now see him in a different light," Lewis said Tuesday. "Affection? That's the problem right there," Johnson responded Wednesday. "The player is not gonna change. Chad has to do what's right for Chad... That's why (Lewis) made the comment. He thinks I'm worried about people liking me. Those days are over. I'm not worried about them anymore, because I have to do what's right for me."

all about me, that's why he can not sit out of the lime light. now if only his play was as good as his celebrations, he would be considered a elite reciever no team can live with out.

"I can't sit out because I won't get paid. Therefore I'll play, whine, complain, make everyone else uncomfortable and collect my pay check until I get what I want. That's what's best for me."

"I'm a little teapot"

waste of talent. Yeah Chad, forget about whats best for the team.. you just do whats best for Chad.. you probably should have taken up an individual sport like golf or bowling

Is darts a team sport?

Johnson is just being honest. Ugly, isn't it? The notion that professional athletes are only in it for the money, and would jump ship for more? Even Jim Brown jumped ship to movies, and Jim Brown was the Greatest Football Player of All Eternity.

If I were in their shoes, I'd do the exact same thing. So would you, by the way. But we'd all probably watch our mouths better and try to come across as a little less mercenary, I hope...

Chad Johnson does make the offseason slightly more banterous. http://ihos.wordpress.com/2008/03/28/lets-put-the-nfl-offseason-in-perspec tive/

Who has an affection for Chad Johnson? Show of hands, please.

April 3, 2008  08:34 AM ET

Anyone see the story about him last year or the year before .. believe it was a segment during a pre-game show. Anyway, came across as a guy who is just so happy to be in his situation .. no hidden agenda, all about the team, etc etc due to a hard life - being thankful for the opportunity. NOW - this .. hey Chad - having a TO mentality and talking in 3rd person makes you look stupid! Grow up .. what's your gripe anyway? Do you even know?

Had that alternative football league (the UFL, I believe) started in '08 as originally intended, Chad Johnson would have had a great alternative to playing for the Bengals. I would sure like the Eagles to trade Lito Sheppard and a high draft pick to Cincy for Chad.

Chad's beef is that Housh had a better year than he did and is getting all the love from the media and the fans. Chad was all about the team when he was the man, but now that he has legit competition as the go-to guy, he is feeling unloved. I have been a big CJ fan for years when he was doing his thing within the team concept. Now he is showing his true "stripes"--it's a shame, he was good for that town...

it sucks chad lkes to put his foot in his mouth, but for any of you to have any question or doubts about his talent on the field just shows you know NOTHING about football. If 1400+ yards and 9 touchdowns in an off year doesnt make you great im not sure i understand how you become great?

April 3, 2008  09:24 AM ET

Chad is just trying to keep up with the melodrama of other teams...try as he may, it sure looks like no matter what he says, they just aren't gonna trade him. Might as well go plat football and see what happens.

April 3, 2008  09:27 AM ET

Why would anyone want Ocho Stinko on their team? Any onfield production is wiped out by his idiocy.

April 3, 2008  09:30 AM ET

You gotta love it when an athlete starts talking in the third person. "Chad's got to do, what Chad's got to do..."

Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode, with Jimmy!

Whatever happened to let your actions do the talking for you?

he may be ugly...but he's not completely stupid

I really don't see what the big deal is. Chad obviously feels like he has paid his dues to the Bengals and its time to move on. Don't know how much football some of you watch if you believe Chad is not one of the best wide outs in the sport. You can't expect everybody to be satisfied with collecting a losing pay-check, the guy wants to win or a real shot at winning and acting like a spoiled brat is probably the best way for him to get out of Cincy, it worked for Owens in SF and Philly.
