New coach won't affect Gordon

Eric Gordon and new Indiana University men's basketball coach Tom Crean spoke briefly Wednesday evening. It doesn't appear Crean will have any impact on whether Gordon returns or enters the NBA draft. Gordon plans to announce his decision Friday. The shooting guard led the Big Ten in scoring as a freshman despite playing most of the second half of the season with what Gordon Sr. said was a broken bone in his non-shooting wrist. Gordon's late season shooting slump didn't appear to damage his NBA prospects. He is still listed in the top 10 of most mock drafts.

yeah, hopefully gordon comes back. IU needs someone who can shoot 7 for 22, and then choke when the tourney rolls around.

April 3, 2008  09:21 AM ET

The Hoosiers could have hired Jesus himself and they won't make the tourney next year.

April 3, 2008  09:27 AM ET

Gordon was fruit of the poisonous tree anyway.

April 3, 2008  10:59 AM ET

how is this clown projected to go top 10?

April 3, 2008  11:15 AM ET

for his sake I hope Gordon stays in school at least another year -- he just wasn't that impressive or dominant as a freshman -- the lure of big bucks and the avarice of those around him may prevail, however ... he'll be stronger and live longer & wiser if he sticks around Indiana for a while longer

April 3, 2008  12:32 PM ET

He's gone...is it the right decision? Probably not. But I guess he'll find out..

April 3, 2008  12:37 PM ET

Isn't IU likely going to wind up on probation, banned from the postseason, anyway? With the two other dudes being kicked off, it's not like they weren't already in heavy duty rebuilding mode anyway. Go make your money while you can, Eric. No sense hanging around a program that won't be winning anything in the next three years.

Thanks Kelvin. Next time, write a letter.

I think he should stay, but the quotes from his dad makes it seem like he's gone.

April 3, 2008  01:02 PM ET

What does Dad do for a living? Let me guess, Living Off His Son? Gordon needs to work on a ton of things. If he we're to stay one more season maybe a top ten pick. But, not this year. This kid is getting bad advice.

April 3, 2008  10:54 PM ET

Once again IrishR#1 is talking out of his behind.Pretty big talk from a fan of a school that has never even come close to winning a national championship in men's basketball.Stick to football and leave basketball to people that know about it.

Well, first of all, it's 7 wins. Secondly, Notre Dame is going to start off next year in the top 15 and kick IU's redneck arse in the Maui Invitational. Brey has good job security, especially because he doesn't break NCAA rules repeatedly.

First, they were pretty damn close in the 70s. Secondly, I'm sure I know more about this than you. Are you going to put all of IU's trust into DeAndre Thomas? Ebanks will get out of his LOI. IU will have no one next year. IU is talented, but they are headcases, which is why they lost to Penn State, Minnesota, and Arkansas.

April 3, 2008  11:58 PM ET

OK guys, Gordon's got plenty of potential and is likely to develop over the next several years to be a reliable player at the next level. Why bother the kid? Shouldn't he be able to earn a living for doing it? And why must you insist on such vile trash talk - you act like he assaulted your mother in the parking lot after the game! Give a teenaged kid a chance!

April 4, 2008  10:22 AM ET

This won't affect Gordon's decision because his decision was made the day he heard he was a projected top 10 pick. 'Nuff said.

April 4, 2008  01:53 PM ET

If Gordon goes pro, he'll be a star.....in the NBADL. Plays no D, can't go to his left, flicks from anywhere (and usually misses) and definitely isn't a team player. The Big 10 coaches figured out his weaknesses halfway through the season and shut him down. Kid's a whiner, has no on court fire and for the life of me I cannot understand what the NBA sees in him to rank him so highly. From an IU perspective, I'm glad he's leaving as Hoosier fans already put up with Bracey Wright's "Me First" attitude.

Sure Eric should be able to capitalize on his NBA market value but another year or two in college play would make him all the more valuable.

April 4, 2008  02:28 PM ET

Why would a new coach affect his decision-making? Commitment is obviously a foreign concept to him.........so I don't see how that would affect him either way.

April 4, 2008  04:24 PM ET

Will gordon go pro? Probably but who watches the NBA anyway, the league is full of show offs anyway. Cause trouble , think you're above the law. Crying how you don't make enough because you played half a season.Ohh yeah but you got talent. That,s just me .... but I live in Indiana...GO PISSERS
