Walsh changes Knicks media rules
The hiring of a team president is rarely accompanied by the announcement that he will alter the restrictive ways that the franchise deals with the news media. Most teams view a good relationship with the press as important, especially when they are losing. The Knicks have been an exception. The controlling policy in dealing with the news media was instituted in 2001 by James L. Dolan, the chairman of Madison Square Garden, but it will apparently ease as part of the deal that on Wednesday brought Donnie Walsh from Indiana as the Knicks' new president. The change will presumably mean the end of public-relations officials monitoring player and coach interviews and typing notes into their BlackBerrys to alert Dolan to any comments that are potentially provocative.

his scouting report will be about players he can relate to.....in the 50's. next he will impliment the actually short shorts rule. he'll probally want to bring back the red, white and blue ball. if he brought nickel beer night he would become very popular.....actually $5.00 beer would do.

I think he's a 'good guy' but I thnk hiring him was another foolish decision.
His last few years in Indy has been awful & I question his talent evaluation ability, (Jamal Tinsley is the leader of his team>?)
He was all set to retire last year- now he has been given possibly the worst/hardest job in sports.....the recussitation of the Knicks
Firing Carlyle? Lettig Bird run the team?
Not such good decisions

As long as he fires Isiah, he was worth the $$.

I think he will turn this team around in the right direction. The team will have good media relations and I think that is more important now than ever especially now that the team is rebuilding. If he can get a decent return for Randolph, that will be another step in the right direction. My only fear is that the Knicks will tank future seasons (I believe they are now) but then again, they would be hopeless if they didn't.

Common? How can Walsh do worse than Isiah? The Pacers (at least in playoff contention this year) aren't the best ran organization in basketball, but they aren't the New York laughingstocks.
I agree with Kdawg, if he fires Isiah he has immediately turned the corner for the Knicks.

No one was sending messages to Fredo Dolan via blackberries. Dolan can't read.
