Three hours after Pedro Martinez landed at JFK Airport, he landed on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring that is expected to keep him from pitching for at least four to six weeks. The Mets activated Brooklyn-born Nelson Figueroa and temporarily assigned him to the bullpen, although Willie Randolph indicated it's likely that Figueroa, a Lincoln High School graduate, will get a start against the Brewers in Flushing next weekend.

Met have gone from a clear cut favorite too what the h*&l. They are really happy they have johan once he gets help they will be ok.

Petey is still in the league? There is always rooster fighting. I'd say **** but they'll star it out.

April 3, 2008  06:50 PM ET

sucks for pedro and the mets missed almost all of last season and now is out again they might need to just trade him hes good but is he really worth that

April 3, 2008  06:56 PM ET

Okay, Mets fans, how about all those World Series predictions now?

April 3, 2008  07:17 PM ET

Except for the most flaming of Mets homers, injured or not, did anyone really expect Pedro Martinez to contribute this season? I mean, the guy is what, 37 yrs old and hasn't had a good season since 2005.

April 3, 2008  07:42 PM ET

Mr. Beane? I know you're on the phone with the Red Sox, but the Mets are on line three, and the Angels are still holding on line two.

April 3, 2008  08:06 PM ET

Is this as suprising to anyone else as it isn't to me?

potato chip.

anyone who actually counted on pedro being able to really contribute is drinking happy juice. this guy is so brittle. plus, he can't pitch past th 6th inning and that is trouble in today's game. That puts way too much pressure on the pen over a long season.

but, at least he made it further into the season than Mike Hamtpon. This guy has to be worse than Pavano. A muscle strain forces him out of his scheduled start. If I owned the Braves I'd make him play the OF. He's a pretty good hitter.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA MUTS fans...........That stiff lasted a whole 57 pitches..................HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA........

April 3, 2008  10:35 PM ET

To bad, but you gotta be carefull of what you wish for , Hope every one is happy. But still I would not count him out just yet . As you know it's a long season, & i don't even like the guy

Lil' Pete is hurt again?? I don't recall a time when a team was so over-hyped than the Mets.

April 4, 2008  07:09 AM ET

Funny I seem to remember Mets fans in the faces of Red Sox fans after Pedey signed with the "other NY team luvdatsmugloserme

Funnier how you were what you are whining about a little while back. Like what happened to that "other Sox team" Curt schiester maybe?

Yea you got Pedro's better years when he was a head hunting, 72 year old man throwin, jerk. Glad you liked him like that.

The Mets could lose 2 more starters and I'd still take their staff over the Phillie's
