Leyland questions Tigers' focus

The Tigers are the only winless team in the majors. They have scored one run in the past two games. And their manager is not happy. "We look terrible at the plate," Jim Leyland said. "We've looked like a dead club. We've looked like an old club. We look like we're not prepared, and that's the manager's responsibility. I accept full responsibility for that." Leyland spoke after the Kansas City Royals beat the Tigers, 4-1, Thursday at Comerica Park to complete a season-opening three-game sweep.

I hope they can get start getting some runs... I think its important to get Willis a few quick wins to get back his confidence... that aint happening without run support...

April 4, 2008  10:27 AM ET

They will come around. These things happen. It is early.

April 4, 2008  10:29 AM ET

its three games into the season....I'd be a little concerned about getting swept by KC, but come on, its still early and it can be tough to play really good ball in April.

this is one problem with having a great lineup (at least on paper.) I think the whole team takes a different attitude when a bunch of stars are on the team. they tend to play with less urgency.

April 4, 2008  10:34 AM ET

And Leyland is a good manager, he is trying to create that urgency, even if we are only three games, or so, into the season.

I guess you can pay it, reshape it, even trade it, but ya still have a lazy fatazz in Cabrera

April 4, 2008  10:43 AM ET

Cabrera lost a lot of weight and came into camp in great shape.

The Tigers hitting will be fine...it is early. Remember, pitchers tend to do better at the beginning of the year. None of them are worn down or pitching through soreness yet. That is why there are so many 2-1 and 3-2 type games right now. The Tigers will pick it up...

You can't polish a turd.

Exactly my point. I don't care if he's 275 or 225 he still has the same defensive deficiencies and is a lazyazz. And like Dum Dum said......

You can't polish a turd

April 4, 2008  10:50 AM ET

Soon enough, I suppose Leyland will be questioning his GM...

April 4, 2008  10:53 AM ET

Good morning, Mr. Bearegard.

It reminds me of the time my mother got her TlT caught in the wringer washing machine.

April 4, 2008  11:14 AM ET

how the freak many Beauregards we gots around here anyways???????

April 4, 2008  11:17 AM ET

Ironically, Inge looks like the best player on his team so far...

April 4, 2008  11:18 AM ET

There is Bearegard and Beauregard...pay attention

April 4, 2008  11:23 AM ET

By the time we pulled it out of there, it looked like a personal pan pizza.

April 4, 2008  11:29 AM ET

With purple pepperonis?

April 4, 2008  11:30 AM ET

And wide-load anchovies.

April 4, 2008  11:34 AM ET

Health is still my major concern for this team. Granderson out, now Cabrera and Sheff. I know these are little nagging injuries, but they add up. Hopefully they can get the starting lineup in a full game and see what they can do.
Yeah, Inge is playing good baseball for them. It is early, but looking this bad isn't a good sign.

April 4, 2008  11:36 AM ET

It is quite a coincedence, JC. Within 13 hours, two of the usual suspects claim Beauregard as part of their name. What are the odds?

I am a great admirer of Confederate General PGT Beauregard...he couldn't fight for ****, but he tapped more ass than a proctologist!
