Reality is starting to set in for Isiah Thomas, kind of like when Larry Brown described himself as a "dead-man walking" before he felt James Dolan's ax.

See ya! Wouldn't want to be ya.

It's sad that this is what Isiah Thomas has become. IMO, it began in his last few years as a player. He seemed to have become an angry bitter man by the time Jordan and the Bulls had ended the Bad Boys' run. Since then he's appeared self-centered and self-righteous. Like I said, just my opinion. I think I'll still hang on to his autograph though.

Isiah is not their biggest problem of course. There still is the fact they gave up their 2008 and 2009 second round pick and even worse they gave up their 2010 pick. Then they have to trade either Curry or Randolph because that experiment failed, and then they still have a huge salary problem. Good luck Walsh, you better pick the right player in the draft.

Don't feel bad Isiah, Larry Bird will be by to give you a kiss.

April 5, 2008  01:19 PM ET

They need to keep Randolph & Lee, void the contracts of the others, take the salary hit & scout Rucker park for true NY talent...

Or send Curry, Robinson, and Crawford to the Wizard of Oz for Heart, Brains, and Courage respectively...oh & keep Starbury of of the clubs & in the gym...

Maybe they could keep him on, let him park cars or something?

April 5, 2008  03:39 PM ET

Two weeks.

don't let the door hit ur rear.

eyeswideopen, you are right, except that Isiah was always a bitter little weasel. Remeber his infamous comment that Larry Bird would be just another player if he weren't white? He thought he was equal to the Birds, Magics and Jordans of the world. Of course, he wasn't and he has gotten pretty mad about it over the years.

April 5, 2008  06:13 PM ET

Now he is aware!?!?

April 5, 2008  06:24 PM ET

he can go get a job at sexual harrasment seminars. poor Isiah what ever will he do?

April 5, 2008  06:27 PM ET

Let's remind everyone this is the SAME Isiah Thomas who ran the Continental Basketball Association...not one team, the ENTIRE league...into extinction. Where did he learn THOSE lovely management skills, one would ask??
If it weren't pathetic, it would be laughable...

April 5, 2008  08:04 PM ET

If Isiah had any integrity or self respect, he would have resigned before now. Whatever happens now he deserves.

April 5, 2008  09:08 PM ET

All good things must come to an end.
Parting is such sweet sorrow, but there's always tomorrow.

More substantial comment forthcoming...

About EyesWideOpen's comment... there's definitely some truth to that. Isiah had periods and _spurts_ of indignancy, when he would act jealous of MJ, Bird, and others. The Pistons' final game of the playoffs in 1991, where they lost to the Bulls, comes to mind. In the last seconds of the game, Isiah led his team off the floor in defeat, not even bothering to congratulate the Bulls.
However, to be fair, Isiah did mature somewhat after that. After he retired, he openly expressed admiration for MJ, Bird, and others, indicating that he would like to work for them as part of an NBA organization. Even in Indiana, Isiah wanted to have a cordial relationship with Bird, but it was Bird who held on to past misunderstandings and pushed him out.
So yes, there has been some bitterness on the part of Isiah, but there have been gaps of politeness and amiability as well.

What about Isiah going to Italy? Isiah would fit in very well there.
First of all, Italy is one of the major players in the Euro league. Second, Isiah is a showy dresser - always wearing designer suits and ties - and would fit in the fashion-conscious Italian culture. Third, there are plenty of attractive women in Italy for Isiah to go after with his womanizing. Finally, since it was suggested that Marbury be sent to Italy, what's good for a Knick player should also be good for the Knick coach!
